H Paul,

I thought that sounded familiar so I turned on my 544.  No antenna connected… I 
have a pulsed signal ( 4 to 5 beats per second ).  With the zero beat knob 
pulled out it zeroes out at 14.0004; knob in it is zero beat at 14.0000.
