Hi All:
I'm debating whether to install a guyed 70' Rohn 45 or go with a 72' Trylon T500 self supporting tower. Some say the guyed Rohn may be more desirable, but I want to minimize the footprint of the tower and keep disruption of the yard to a minimum. The area I'm putting the tower in is abot 120' X 160'. I live in southern PA on a level lot at 700' which catches the wind well from the N & NW. Any ideas?

One thing I did was to elevate the guy anchors (anchor points are about 10' off the ground). I used 5" steel pipe, filled with concrete and reinforced. This keeps the guys out of the way. I overbuilt the guying system to take into account the extra load created by the elevated guy anchors.
The tower is a 97 foot Rohn 45G, guyed at 33, 65 and 96 feet. The bottom two tier of guys are 4400# test Phillistrand and the top tier is 6600# test.
This method does decrease the foot print, but either requires back guying the posts, or some method of bracing. It also puts a tremendous lateral load that wants to rotate the anchor so mine are set deep and heavy.
Good Luck,
Roger (K8RI)
