Rotors and parts Reply
by K8RI on March 11, 2001 Mail this to a friend!
I'm installing an antenna system on a Rohn 45G. The bottom rotor is a HyGain HDR600, but I have a Wilson WR-1000 that has been setting out in the shop for years and has never been used. Unfortunately the manual and the 10 pin connector for the rotor have been lost.

I need to find a connector and manual, (or at least a schematic) in place of the manual.

The antennas are, or will be mounted on concentric steel masts (0.25 wall)

The UHF/VHF antennas are on the inner mast, while the HF beam will be just above the top of the tower on the outer mast.

I plan on using a HyGain HDR 600 to drive the outer mast and was thinking about using the WR-1000 for the center mast.

Any help finding the connector and a diagram (or manual)would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Roger (K8RI)

Hi Roger;

The only schematic that I've ever seen for a Wilson WR-1000 was printed on the back of the control box. Wilson rotors, while quite robust, cannot be easily repaired as the gears are not standard parts.

It seemed to me that the directional controls on the WR-1000 control box were wired in such a way that you could drive the rotor while the brake was engaged. A simple change to cause no power to the motor unless the brake is disengaged may allow for extended life of the rotor.

If you want to, give me a call at 920-376-6814 anytime. I have a complete manual with schematic wiring diagram as well as an exploded view and a parts list for the Wilson WR-1000 rotor. It also shows how towire the control box to the rotor as well along with the pinoutsfor each plug. Feel free to call me anytime before 10:00PM.
