Importing Equipment into Europe ! Reply
by DF7ZS on September 12, 2002 Mail this to a friend!
Hi there.

Is here anyone who has experience about "grey" Importing Hamradio Equipment into Europe or Germany.

For example:
In the US you can buy a Mark IV for 2500$ factory new.
The usual streetprice in Germany is 3200 <> 3100$ !!!
1400 <> 1350$ for a FT100 ... This can't be fair play.

How much custums do I have to pay.
What about warrenty.

Any comments are welcome !

Hi Helmut,

depending on how you declare the radio, importing tax is between 0 and 5%. In addition you have to pay 16% VAT and of course shipping. Shipping is not that inexpensive if you choose an reliable carrier (I prefer FedEx) but 'normally' you can save some Euro's importing the rig. (It of course also depends on the EUR-US$ exchange rate). If you have warranty problems those EUR saved by importing the radio could be easily spend very quick ...
