Contesting Online Classifieds Help

[Classifieds Home]   [Search]   [Help]

The Contesting Online Classifieds is an online swap site. It was started to give the Amateur Radio Contesting community a place to buy and sell on the internet for no cost. It is better than Usenet newsgroups (such as ) because the people posting messages here don't get put on a spam list if they make a post. The minute you post on , you have given all the spammers your email address.

We also offer email notification for a specific item of interest. If, for example, you are looking for a Chevy Citation, just add Chevy Citation to your keyword notifications, and you will receive an email each time someone adds a posting for a Chevy Citation. Click on the Configure link at the top of this page to set up your own notification.

Using the Contesting Online Classifieds is Free. You can search and post items here for no charge. Unlike an auction site, we collect no money from the sale of any item at this site.

If you have questions, problems, or suggestions regarding the ads section, please email the Classifieds Manager.

Viewing ads

When you first arrive at ads, you will see the last 50 ads. You are now viewing the Summary View of the ads. If you would like to view fewer ads, but see more detail about each one, then click on Detail View link at the top of the summary page or click on the Configure link to configure all of your Contesting Online Classifieds options. The Detail View will display 25 ads per page and include a detailed description of each ad as well as display a camera icon with ads that include pictures with the ad.

If you would like to see only classified ads that have been added since your last visit, click on the New ad Only link at the top of the home page. The next time you visit the ads section, you will be shown only ads that are new since the last time you visited the site.

Searching for Classified ad

If you are looking for something specific, then click on the Search link. You can search by category, date range, text, and whether or not to include sold items with your search results. Any of these items can be combined to narrow your search results.

Adding Items

To add a For Sale or Want To Buy post, click on the Add link on the top menu. You are required to enter your full name, email address, Callsign, telephone number, and a caption for your ad. Finally, you must select a category from those available. If none of the categories match your item, you can post it in the Misc category or write the ads Manager and suggest a new category. The description field is used for a detailed description of your item(s). You can even attach a picture of your item for viewing.

Reporting Abuses of Contesting Online Classifieds

If you find an ad that violates our Terms of Service, please contact the Classifieds Manager immediately.

Fraud

If you think you have been ripped off by another member of Contesting Online, there are several things you can do, depending on how far you want to take your complaint. We recommend you start with the first two steps below, before following up on any others.

  1. Talk to the other member. Sometimes it may seem like you've been ripped off when what really has happened is there has been a miscommunication. See if this is the case before you take your complaint to the next level.
  2. Contact the Classifieds Manager. If you feel this is an outright case of fraud or a blatant misuse of the Contesting Online Classifieds, send us an email with the person's Callsign. We will investigate it and if we are able to determine with certainty that there was a misuse we will block the member from using the site and delete all of their ads. Please consider this a fairly extreme measure - it takes a lot of time to follow up on these complaints.
  3. Contact a third party to resolve the problem. If you need to, contact an outside party to arbitrate your dispute.
  4. File a formal complaint. If you paid for an item but never received it, this is considered mail fraud. You can contact your local Post Office or the National Fraud Information Center (http://www.fraud.com) and file a formal complaint.

We hope you enjoy the site.
