I'd tend to agree that it's a baloney survey statistic.  Particularly for
the very simple reason that if the source and raw data aren't available,
it's likely that the interpretation was "conveniently" tailored to fit the
OP's opinion.  It's the tool of scoundrels to never offer up the backing
data, but point to "a recent survey".  My professional experience has time
and time again demonstrated that many of those "recent surveys" occurred
only in the mind of the person offering it to support his or her opinion.
Though to be fair, there are enough real ones that were done badly as to
support any sorts of wild extrapolation to what ever the scoundrel wanted
to 'prove'.
