Not surprising, components like this are often poorly designed, ignoring FCC Rules for RFI. The solution is to call on the supplier to fix that, and the time to do that is before you sign on the dotted line. Suppliers tend to be more responsive before they have our money.

Yes, but don't expect it to do much below 6M unless you can wind turns.

 Besides the obvious need to be large enough to fit around the
cable, what other factors need to be taken into consideration?  I suppose
that the 60Hz AC current through the cable imposes come requirements on the
ferrite core. what are they?

No, the only consideration is mechanical.
