I've worked 26 countries from Montana running 50 watts with the main antenna
being the backside of my 5 element 20m HyGain yagi. Actually it seems to be
best at about 160 degrees from the direction it is actually pointing.  I
also have a Ringo AR-6 vertical but it is a lot noisier and not as effective
although I did work TI9M with it a few years back.

This past weekend I worked some stuff with the 160m half sloper and was
surprised how well it worked.
