Comments:
Not my best effort. It is amazing what contest operations discover about a
station you thought was working. Had some issues with the multiplier antennas
on 20/15 that basically made them unusable. The mults on those bands
(especially 20) suffered as a result.
Contest started fantastic. First night was as fun as it gets. But sunrise
brought a new reality as all of the 20m signals had heavy aurora sound, and
there was nothing runnable on 15/10.
My station now has a big flat screen that I put the prop info on. That was a
mistake, because when the K went to 6 on Saturday I lost my mojo. The bands
actually improved later as everyone knows. But I started to drift away from the
radio a bit and even watched a little of the OSU/UM game. And I got 5 plus
hours of sleep the second night. The scoreboard was not the motivator I had
hoped -- very few scores there that were relevant.
160 was a big disappointment -- the second night was full of stateside signals
working stuff I could now even detect. Had to work hard to get some JA's.
The problem with this contest is that it all goes downhill from here! You want
the bands to be full of signals and DX like it was last weekend, but that's not
what's ahead.
