K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care
retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and
W5MPB operated Multi-2 LP in July 2023 NAQP RTTY.
Our K3S and K3 radios were set up with N1MM+ for AFSK RTTY, and
worked FB on Thurs. 7/13. At 18Z Sat. the K3S on 20 M was FB for
N3UM. But the K3 with Signalink on 15 M would not send AFSK.
W5MPB found N1MM+ Telnet clashed with K3 menu settings; e.g., K3
went from AFSK to FSK when Bandmap or Avail. Mults & Qs windows
were opened or shut. (Telnet was off for Thurs. tests.) With that
quirk fixed we still found no way to get spots AND AFSK transmit.
We agreed at 2045Z to take turns on the K3S, still M-2 since
there is no M-1.
By 2045Z N3UM had gotten 59 20-M Qs in 2 hrs, + 0.8 hrs off to
help try to fix the K3. So, at 2049Z W5MPB got on 20 M for 49 Qs
in 2.1 hrs by 23Z. In 2 hrs 23-01Z, N3UM got 82 40-M Qs.
After 01Z we took 1.5 hr. turns. W5MPB got 23 40-M Qs and 14 80-M
Qs. N3UM got 36 80-M Qs, 20 of them in a 17-min. run, and 33 40-M
Qs, 19 in a 17-min. run.
After 04Z, CQs were not answered and spots were few. W5MPB scraped
up 11 last 40-M Qs 0415-0440, and N3UM 5 last 80-M Qs 0444-0455Z.
We agreed; 1 more hr. on would not be fruitful or fun.
We felt good to get 0.55 X the Qs and 0.78 X the mults with one
radio vs what we got in 2022 with two. SFI of 180 helped get mults,
and K=1 after dark made 40 and 80 M fun; good sigs MD to CA and WA,
low QSB. We got 44 states + DC, and AB, BC, ON, QC, and SK in VE.
Missed AR, NM, NH, VT, WV, & WY.
