Being a good parent can be tough. There are so many things to think about to make sure you're giving your child all the opportunities you can, while also making sure they aren't spoiled. Bright Beginnings have a specially selected team that consists of Supervisors, Staff, Coordinators, and Educators who are well trained and devoted to providing inclusive care for all children being cared for and their families. Read on for some tips on parenting that can help make sure your kids are the best they can be.

Exercise caution when diagnosing siblings who start to display symptoms of an illness shared by another brother or sister. Although families with multiple children often share germs, viruses, and illnesses, sharing medications or neglecting to take each child to the doctor increases the risk of health problems caused by unchecked or misdiagnosed ailments.

If your toddler is having a tantrum, one of the most effective ways to get them to calm down is to minimize other noise and activity. Do not try to pick up your child; use a little table or chair and a blanket to make a small tent that he can go under. Give him a familiar object and let him relax.

Lead by example. Don't spank your kids for hitting, it makes absolutely no sense. Your kids look up to what you do more than anything else. Show them the kind of person you want them to be. The more you act out what you are saying, the more they will believe that you are doing the right thing.

When your family rules are termed with positive vocabulary, it reinforces peace over conflict and encourages your children to coexist. Try telling your child what they should do rather than what they shouldn't. "Walk slowly" is a better way of saying "Don't run."

Make your kitchen baby-friendly to help you during the tough time of dinner preparation. Having an area in your kitchen set up for a baby or small toddler to play safely while still interacting with you makes them less clingy and allows you to finish meal preparation without worrying about safety.

It is okay to go to the drive-thru if you are having a very hard day and it would make things more convenient for you, but do not make that a part of your regular routine. You should use this as a treat for the children, instead of feeding them these foods regularly, because this habit can lead to child obesity.

Take advantage of your child's school's computer records to keep up with your child's daily progress. Most school systems today have computerized tracking of grades and assignments. Get the access code to that system and use it on a daily basis to make sure nothing slips up on you when report cards come out.

Praise your children. Some parents are very good at focusing on the negative, but forget about the positive. When a child is praised it lets them know that their parents love and appreciate them. It also makes them more likely to repeat positive behaviors. Try to look for something to praise your child about at least once a day.
