The landmark yellow taxi is especially a rather popular method of getting around the city with the residents & visitors alike. The yellow taxis are easy to identify, as they are bright yellow & have a yellow light on the roof. These yellow taxis are known to be the only vehicles allowed to pick up passengers in response to a street hail across the city. A taxi displays its availability by illuminating the yellow light. An illuminated light shows that the cab is available to hire. To hire a cab, you have to attract the driver's attention by waving from the corner. There are alternatives to the yellow cab, which include ride-sharing services like Uber & Lyft. These have to be booked in advance with their apps and generally turn much cheaper than a yellow cab.

The NMTA operates a fleet of around 6,000 buses in New York, which covers over 322 routes. It is sufficient to say that you should find a bus route which fulfills your needs. Buses in New York are generally categorized as local or express. Express lanes are known to have reduced stops & concentrate on serving the commuter routes from some of the busier areas of Manhattan to the outer boroughs.
