Martti Laine, OH2BH, announced at the Dayton 2002 Contest Dinner that
Finland's President Tarja Halonen would preside over the WRTC 2002 activities
being held in Finland this July.
WRTC 2002 will gather top competitors from around the globe in a multi-event
amateur radio competition. 52 identical stations will be provided to the
competitors for the on-air portion of the competition which will occur
coincidentally with the IARU
HF World Championships. All amateurs world-wide are encouraged to work
the competitors.
Martti reported that 33 of the 52 stations have already been installed
including new towers and antennas with the balance to be completed over the next
few weeks. All 52 stations will have the same tower and antennas to level
the playing field for the competitors.
The teams will be using OJ1 - OJ8 prefixes for the first time so prefix
hunters will want to work them.
For more information about this exciting event, see the WRTC2002
website.
