To clean a carpet, it is not necessary to
wash it. Dry cleaning methods allow you to
remove deeply embedded dust and foreign odors
without wetting the product and subsequent
long drying. In this article, we will tell
you in which situations dry cleaning is
preferable, and what you will need for it.
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages of dry cleaning with carpet
cleaning Dubai:
- easier and faster than traditional
washing;
- a correctly selected product will not
harm the carpet, which does not tolerate
moisture and exposure to aggressive
substances;
- Frequent use is acceptable - as the
product becomes dirty;
- In most cases, it does not require the
purchase of expensive cleaning products -
everything you need is in the kitchen.
However, these methods should not be used
if:
- there are complex or old stains on the
carpet - dry cleaning is powerless against
them, washing with local application of a
stain remover is required;
- you need to clean a long-pile product -
particles of the cleaning agent will remain
deep in the pile and can spoil the appearance
or texture of the pile;
- If you have an expensive handmade carpet,
it is better to take it to the dry cleaners
right away, as dry cleaning at home can cause
mechanical damage to the pile threads or
base.
Therefore, dry cleaning methods are used
to remove light dirt, dust and debris from
deep within the pile of any machine-made
carpets except long pile carpets.
However, if you have a powerful vacuum
cleaner with a special attachment for long
pile, we recommend trying your favorite
method on a small area to evaluate its
effectiveness.
How to clean
The basic tool needed for dry cleaning is
a powerful vacuum cleaner with an attachment
that matches the pile height of your carpet.
It is convenient to sweep the product off
mats and low-pile items with a damp broom. It
is advisable to wear gloves to protect your
hands, and a mask or respirator will help to
avoid inhaling small particles when using
powdered substances. You can also use a soft
carpet brush, with which it is convenient to
rub the cleaning agent into the pile or treat
the most contaminated areas.
General scheme of application of most dry
cleaning methods:
- Prepare the carpet by vacuuming
thoroughly on both sides.
- Prepare the required amount of the
substance used for cleaning. Use the
industrial preparation according to the
manufacturer's instructions.
- Apply the product to the surface of the
carpet, if necessary, gently rub in with a
brush, moving in the direction of the pile.
- Wait for the time specified in the method
description.
- Remove any remaining product using a
method convenient for you.
Although non-aggressive agents are used
for dry cleaning, we recommend testing their
effect on an inconspicuous area of the
product before use.
Effective Home Remedies
The advantages of home remedies are that
they are inexpensive and almost always
available. These include:
- Table salt. Disinfects pile, removes
odors, copes well with fresh greasy stains.
To clean a medium-sized carpet, you will need
about 1 kg of fine or medium-ground salt.
Before use, pour it into a convenient
container and lightly spray it with water
from a spray bottle so that the salt becomes
damp, but remains loose. After distributing
it over the pile, leave it for 30 minutes,
then vacuum it up.
- Baking soda. It has antiseptic
properties, removes odors and helps remove
greasy stains and greasy pile. To clean a
medium-sized carpet, you will need about 250
g of soda. The powder does not require
moistening; after application, leave it on
the pile for 30-60 minutes.
- Starch. Suitable for cleaning white and
beige carpets with short pile made of any
material. Traces will remain on bright and
dark items, and the powder will be difficult
to remove from medium and long pile. For a
medium-sized carpet, you will need 150-200 g.
Apply a thin layer of starch, rub it into the
pile with a brush, leave for 30 minutes. The
easiest way to remove this product from the
carpet is with a damp broom.
- Tea leaves. Collects dust and removes
odors well. Suitable for cleaning black or
brown carpets, but will leave streaks and
stains on items of other colors. Squeeze and
dry used tea leaves until slightly damp,
apply to pile, leave for 15 minutes, sweep
with a broom.
- Sauerkraut. Before using, it must be
washed, squeezed well, and if there are large
pieces, chopped. Use according to the same
principle as tea leaves.
We intentionally did not include snow
cleaning on this list. Despite its
effectiveness and simplicity, this method is
only conditionally called dry - in most
cases, the carpet still gets a little wet,
since snow particles often remain deep in the
pile.
Industrial dry cleaning products
The advantages of industrial products are
ease of use and effective removal of all
stains except the most difficult to remove.
Such products are available in two forms -
moistened powder (Vanish Oxi Action) and
spray foam (Nordland: active foam,
Tuba).
For very dirty carpets, you can use
concentrated shampoos and gels (Chirton,
GraSS Carpet Cleaner, Vanish Gold), since
foam is used for direct cleaning - to obtain
it, the cleaning solution must be whipped.
But if you do not act carefully enough, the
carpet will get wet. Therefore, we recommend
using powder or active foam - these products
are ready for use and are easy to dose when
applied.
Now you know how to dry clean carpets, so
you can easily restore the cleanliness and
attractiveness of any carpet in your home.
