Comments:

The highlight was the great propagation. The lows many. I was awake for the
whole 48 hours on a struggle that started at 9Z the first day. After beating my
previous first-night numbers by a lot, Started to hear splatter on the radio and
white noise on the bands, sure enought the same problem that happened on phone
started happening again; it looked like after extensive use the radio showed
this behavior. But I had a plan, and the other radio came online immediately;
all was perfect until it was not and after a while, I was getting computer
hangups and affected keying. of course, I had another computer, swapped and
presto! back in the air until the hangups started happening again on the
laptop.

At that stage, it was clear that it was not computer-related but some sort of RF
issue. having a well-grounded setup, it was easy to pinpoint the radio. This
radio failed us last wpx and spent 4 months in the factory because of RF issues.
It was never fixed properly.. it was clear that Murphy would not leave me alone
and after 5 hours of trying everything, it was clear that the contest was not
going to end well for me.

More sad than pissed I was clear of two things 1. the contest as a serious entry
was over for me and my choice of radio technology was no longer sound for
serious competition. When three of the six top contests of the year ended up in
radio failures it was time to go another route.

Frustrated, I decided to enjoy the contest anyway, fired up the cluster and If I
kept the power under 250 watts (got a lot less computer hangups) It was
manageable, and finished working many nice mults and had some fun at the end.

The weekend wasn't lost, and I learned something or two along the way. Congrats
to all, amazing race between Dan and Chris, they were swapping places non-stop
and it was the best-closed race I've seen them have; too bad for Chris's
situation. Los Chachos again showed up and did very well Wirh EA8RM, WP3A and
NP3A scoring big!

The bands were so good that even with all the issues managed to score decently.

73's

Felipe
