Well another CW Sweeps is in the books. This year was a lot of fun and my first
Sweeps with my K4D, and new antennas (still haven't gotten my loop back, that
will be a project for the next couple of weeks as I hope to have it back for the
Phone Sweeps in a couple of weeks. I was surprised how much nicer the K4D audio
was compared to my K3S.
I found that the bands DIED on Sunday afternoon around 4:00 EST and started to
recover by 5:30. I tried my hands at running and had ok results, but realize I
need to optimize my use of N1MM to make the process more efficient for both me
and the other side of the contact. 40 and 20 were the money bands. I think I
could do better on 80M once the loop is back up (I am currently only using a
G5RV @ 45' but that did amazingly well. 15 and 10 were kind of a disappointment
even with the HexBeam. I did not get a clean sweep (83 out of 85 missing ONN
and PR) the funny thing was that I worked PR right before the start of the
contest but never heard them after it started. As for ONN, I had them on the
line Saturday evening, but could never complete the Q.
It was great to work a lot of past colleagues and meet the acquaintance of new
ones. Thanks to all who participated and for the ARRL for putting on this clam
bake!
