SS did not end how or when I was planning. We will get to that.
As I run assisted, I typically spend the first hour or so all SP to get the
mults out of the way. Then, nothing but run and the occasional band sweep for
the rest of the event. My goal is always to get a sweep and 1000 Qs. The sweep
came Sunday morning when WP3R answered my CQ on 20 around 1443 UTC. THANK YOU!!
The sweep was behind me but, at that time, I was still about 300 Qs short of my
1000 Q goal.
Then, around 1700 UTC one of my ACOM 2000A amps decided to fault with a BIAS TOO
LOW at POWER ON message. Yes, I was using both rigs and amps and could have
continued, but I do not like that kind of failure. So, my SS outing stopped for
the next 3 hours. I determined that it was not going to be an easy or quick fix,
at least for me, so I decided to get back on the air and try to get the
remaining 150 Qs to get to 1000. My head was not in the game and stayed focused
on the amp failure so after about 1 more hour, and getting to 900 Qs I stopped
and went back to the amp.
As of this morning it is still down but some potential causes have been
eliminated. Over night I received several responses to my ACOM groups.io message
and one looks very promising. Time will tell!
Thanks for the Qs, the fun and....hope to be on for SS SSB with both amps. If I
get real lucky, maybe even the SSB Sprint this coming weekend.
