Comments:

I decided to use my eastern FN22 hilltop since the forecast was the same for all
hilltops I researched, so I might as well use the best elevation. On my way
there, I saw a double rainbow in the area where the hilltop is, which
unfortunately means rain. It must have just stopped when I got there, because
the ground was so saturated that I had to watch where I walked. Somehow I
managed to keep my feet dry in the unmowed grass while setting up the 4-stack
omni. I finished at 6:58 and heard a couple loud beacons, so I figured I was in
business. I was running about 200w with an external preamp hiding behind a
commercial bandpass/bandreject filter. I made 18 contacts in the first hour (82
percent of the total), 3 more in the second hour, and then began wondering when
in the 9:00 hour I should begin tearing down since I am getting tired and still
have a 90-minute drive home. I heard Ohio station K8RYU on CW. He is on the edge
of my station's troposcatter range, so it was a fight, but we completed for my
best DX of 413 miles / 665 km. That would be a perfect way to end, so I began
tearing down the antenna at 9:30 in wind-driven fog. It was also nice to catch a
station in the Adirondacks FN24, as well as FN11 and FN14.
