Comments:

Had an enjoyable weekend working the CQMM. 100% S&P. I really liked the way
that they have the multipliers set up. I'll bet you could really rack up a great
score if the bands were just right. The contest was a bit difficult to say the
least, with each band producing its own individual challenges. Out of all of the
bands, I have to day that 15 meters was my best band for working DX. Propagation
was strange, sometimes going to complete blackouts on certain bands to weak
signals from differant continants that were workable with one or two calls. I
found myself using my two verticals most of the weekend, as the Superloops &
Horizontal loop seemed to be deaf. At times they worked OK, but I found that the
really weak stations popped up on the waterfall when I went to one of the
vertical antennas. Below is an account of what I heard and or worked.

Sat. 4/15
20 EU 5 am Australia, Hawaii worked got a few member 10 pt stations.
1200 20 Meters poor cond, minimal stations
10 M Hearing SA (Brazil)
15 meters 1300 Got 4L8A (Georgia)10 pointer another opening to SA @ 1400 worked
FY5KE (French Guiana) & Africa. Worked CT3KN (Mederiria Is.)1416 John K4BAI
beat me to the punch trying to work UT3E @1429. The band is weak despite solar
data reporting good band conditions, having to work most stations with my ground
mounted Gap Challenger multi-band vertical. Loops just ain't cutting it today.
The band got a bit stonger @ 1439, worked CT9ABN, his signal was about 5X5 on my
horizontal loop. 9A5W(Croatia) 10 Point member worked @ 1445 using the E/W Super
Loop. Got my first YL op HA5YG in Hungary 1449 for another nice 10 point Q. EU
Russia RN3AM & S53F (Slovania) worked 1453.
Quick check @ 1500 20 Meters only heard a couple of stateside stations & 10
meters very weak hearing some SA stations so decided to stick with 15 meters for
awhile.

1600 10 open to SA, but very weak. Worked PQ8VA in Brazil, 3X3 signal with QSB
Nice fist at 18wpm, plus another 10 pointer member station! Worked using Maco
V5/8 vertical. CT1GFK (Portugal) worked 1608. EA8DHV (Canary Islands) worked
1616, very weak signal + speed demon 40WPM exchange.
20 meters 1715 worked DM23BUGA (DARC SES)Germany, seeing some very weak EU
stations on the lower half of the CW band but too weak to mess with.

1937 heard 4Z1DZ on 20 meters but he was in the Holyland test.

10 meters open to PR SA 2023 worked PR2R and OA1F (Peru) KH7M in Hawaii 2030
Hearing Japan @ 2153 worked ZL3P New Zealand 5x4 signal. Saw a signal at the
very bottom of the band, it was PY3NT sending realy slow about 10-12 WPM, he
wasn't getting any return calls so I slowed down my keyer and gave him a Q. I
have to say, he has a gud fist and didn't miss a beat in the exchange. IMHO this
guy is going to be a great CW contester one day!

20 meters 2218 Hearing a mix of stateside AF, SA,& EU, worked LY7T
(Lithuania) Picked up CT3KN (Medeiria Is.) @2247 10 points!

40 Meters 0034 mostly Eastern US so I went back to 20 for awhile. Found a mix of
EU & SA stations. Worked CB3R (Chile) & 4T4T (Peru) 0123. Worked John
K4BAI @0127, beautiful 5x8 sigs into SC from GA. Picked up ZF2MA in the Cayman
Islands for 10 points@ 0131.

Tried 80 meters around 0145, lots of QRN only worked two stations AF2F &
VE3J, the few other stations were too light to work. Decided to give 20 meters
another go, still open to Central America & Mexico @0205 but with fluttered
signals. Worked ZF2VE (Cayman Is)2209 shut down 2230
 Sun 4/16/23
On the air 0930 Not much activity on 80/40, few weak stateside stations.
20 meters sorta open to EU Worked LZ5R (Bulgaria), DL7ON (Germany)& HA3DX
(Hungary)around 0936. A quick check on 40 at 1041 heard and worked both CO2JD
(Cuba), 4T4T (Peru), found two 10 pointers AC5XK {NAM} & AH6KO (Hawaii)
{OCM}@1048 (Greyline).
15 Meters hearing weak sigs from EU & SA 1130 Worked PQ8VA (Brazil) 10points
{SAM} 1140.
10 weak opening to SA 1245
15 meters 1320 worked 9A5Y (Croatia) Took a few tries but was able to work
RU4PU(EU Russia) with my Gap Challenger @1349, lots of signals but band still
weak.
1751 Not much to work on 20, some stateside band is kind of quiet, 15 is still
weak. Had difficulty hearing with any of my loops, working EU with the Gap
Challenger Vertical, seeing lots of stations on the waterfall, hearing much
better as well. Band is somewhat open to the NW coast of EU, worked OG3B
(Finland)1758 & PA4VHF (Netherlands) a few minutes later. Worked HA9RT
(Hungary) 1829.
1900 10 Meters is very weak, hearing some EU & SA but too much QSB. Seems
like 15 meters is the best place for DX today. YO9HP(Romania) 1907. Took a short
break to do a bit of walking as per my doctor, summer is sure on it's way.
Worked AH6KO for band #4 and another 10 pointer@ 1945 15 has died out for the
moment, hoping to hear some JAs.
20 Meters has a mix of Stateside and weak EU , Worked R6AF @ 1953 10 was really
slow this weekend, checked @2100 and got one or two South America stations and
worked KH6AQ @ 2111.
15 Meters XQ1KZ (Chile) worked with Gap Challenger 2249 Heard two differant JA's
but were super weak signal@2300.
Flutter on 10 meters@2305, hearing some South America but hard to pull out. This
has been a difficult weekend for propagation, but the contest was slow and
steady with plenty of DX to work. Hope that the bands continue to improve.
