Comments:
Many thanks from Jim (W4TMO) and me (N4CW) for the really fun (but tiring)
weekend. No complaints other than our hastily-configured station setup. Jim
operated from his home (remote) and I "minded the store" and operated.
We didn't do 40M the first night because we had no antenna! I fabricated a
dipole on Saturday and ran it as a sloping vertical dipole with the upper end at
60 feet up the side of the tower, ran the coax to the coax switch at the base of
the tower and we were in business (NOT!!!). Resonance on the initial length was
at 6.57 MHz with 2.5:1 SWR...after some pruning (that tower climbing to 60 feet
gets tiring!) I settled on an SWR of 2:1 at 6.95 MHz and let the outboard tuner
handle it!
Other problems were dealt with as they appeared...nothing major. Phew!!! So Jim
and I coordinated our operations: I'd check the station periodically to see if
the amp faulted or something needed adjusting...a running battle, so to speak.
