Comments:
This was the first mostly on-site MM in quite a while. 4 ops on site and 3
remote. It was a good reminder that a big part of a MM is the FB social
interactions. The best part of the weekend was that the solar flare spared
Fri/Sat and actually enhanced conditions to great levels! The high bands came
alive. It was the first contest showing a real indication of the new cycle.
Let’s hope there is a rapid increase.
160/80: Fri night Michael, NT6V, the conditions were poor and making a few DX
QSOs was a struggle with the largest portion of QSOs being zero-point QSOs. But
we did appreciate lots of folks especially on 160m being polite to thank for the
zone multiplier we provided to many.
160/80 rest of contest: Ken, N6RO operating job graveyard shifts, both nights on
80 and 160, attempting pseudo-SO2R with just one radio. 160m had poor prop in
all directions and power -line hash, primarily toward the east, covering several
Carib. mults I could have easily worked without the noise. Did manage ZL JA,
KH6, UA0, to the west. 80m was in good shape after midnight, easily picking off
new mults in Carib and SA. Excellent condx to JA, bagging 102 of them. Highlight
was my last Q on 80 for a double mult, 9V1YC!
40m: David, WD6T: Strong signals from Europe but they seemed unable to hear me.
Only a handful worked first night. Second night much better but still some deaf
to me First night JA runs started slow but picked up speed and quite good when
the QRM and Halloween-like ghoulish noises subsided and allowed more than the
loud ones to be copied .Also much appreciated were YBs and other Asia . Managed
81 countries and 33 zones.
40m second night 0745 to close: Steve, K6AW.
20m: Bob, K3EST. Conditions were FB up thru Sat evening. Lots of activity from
everywhere. Good opening to zone 17 both nights with UP, UK, EY and lots of
UA9/0s. Saturday morning the band opened to Europe before sunrise and stayed
good all morning. Never heard zones 34, 36. Several VUs were heard but no luck.
The band conditions both evenings were almost non-existent to SEA/YB. However,
Sunday morning about 1500z 9M, HS, V85, 9M6 were all 59+ short path. Lots of
fun!
15m: Chris, N6WM up to Sunday morning. Spectacular conditions on 15 meters
Friday night through Saturday leading to unprecedented Asia pacific runs and
good propagation and even some runs of eu from north W6. Over a thousand qso on
15 in first 24 hs. Including 450 JA. What fun.
15m David, WD6T: Sunday late morning to close, The second day was slower than
first day but still decent to SA and great to Asia. Nice surprise was being
called by OH while beaming JA in late afternoon
10m: Michael, NT6V Fri Nite: 10m started out excellent with openings to SA and
VK/ZL yielding nearly 100 QSOs in the first hour.
10m: Roberto, K6KM rest of contest. Conditions on 10m were unexpectedly good.
From mid-morning Saturday band was packed wall to wall. Great run to JA on
Saturday late afternoon and also a great run to PY on Sunday afternoon. Not much
propagation to EU from W6 on Sunday morning but managed to get G, EA, CT, F1 and
IK. Some Africa too. Surprisingly not much to ZL and VK. 180 PY, 168 JA and 50
LU were the top of the count.
