                    Stew Perry Topband Challenge

Call: AE0EE
Operator(s): AE0EE
Station: AE0EE

Class: Single Op LP
QTH: EN34
Operating Time (hrs): 11

Summary:
Total: QSOs = 184 Total Score = 706

Club: Minnesota Wireless Assn

Comments:

100 W, dipole at 30', keyed on an iambic paddle.

Conditions were very noisy with all the thunderstorms off to the southeast.
Unlike the ARRL 160m contest, the QSB wasn't too bad, and I managed to hold a
run frequency a few times for stretches of >1.5 hours each. As is often the
case at my station, the rates were not blistering (a good hour was >20), but
it was good experience for when conditions get better.

Around 0500z, it was like someone flipped a switch and the band opened up.
First came W7RN for my first 8-point of the contest, and then a few more in
succession from both east and west. Things stayed open until I got tired and
went to bed at 0745z. I got up a few hours later and was on until shortly
after sunrise. It was all pretty noisy, and it seemed like the holidays took a
toll on participation, but there were QSOs to be made.

Propagation generally seemed best to the east and west. Very few stations from
call areas 4 and 5 were heard (or worked), and even the southwestern 7s were few
and far between.

Grids: 92
Best DX: CM87

Comparison with last year:
Up: Score (706 vs. 664 last year), longer-distance QSOs
Down: QSOs (184 vs. 185 last year)
