Still waiting for 10m to make a comeback - in 2002, ten
provided 848Qs for me compared with 249 this year; but much
better low band conditions allowed me to post my best score
in 11 years in this event. All the additional QSOs this
year over last year were on the low bands - especially 40m.

Had some equipment problems on one of the radio positions -
still trying to debug an intermittant, but seems to be
in the bandpass filter area - when I place the coax directly
from the rig to the wattmeter/monitor scope I don't see
the problem; when I put the Dunestar back inline I sometimes
have the problem. But, it's intermittant so it may be
coincidence! During the contest it would sometimes noted
that the problem would clear itself for a while when I
cycled the power switch; other times I noted in the log
that the SWR on the rig's indicator would show 3:1 while
the external wattmeter would show 1:1.

Friday night the beverages didn't seem to work worth a
hoot on 160 early- I could hear better on the transmitting
antenna - started to show some directivity around EU
sunrise Saturday. Noticed some broadband raspy noise
on 15 and 10 at separate times - about 25 to 50 kHz wide;
on 15 from 21080-21110 and on 10 from 28060-21110. This
was noticeable when the bands were potentially open for
a low-power run - didn't notice it when the bands were
less useful (Murphy's law).

Spent a lot of time CQing (4495 times on the CQ counter
which doesn't count the times you actually run people).
As a result I worked a fair number of 5 watters -
28 on 40m, 20 on 20m, 28 on 15m, and 7 on 10. One of
the 5 watt Europeans on 40 was worked a solid hour before
my sunset. No JAs on 10m - heard a couple of weak ones,
like JA3YBK, but no luck. The closest I came was NH2DX
late Saturday afternoon.

Had 24 6-banders and 26 more on 5 bands.

Another close finish with N5AW - I just wish it could
be closer to the top!
