Comments:

FUN contest. Didn't know how much time I was going to be albe to devote or how
the back-up radio and cheapy dipole at 18-feet would work.

The fun on Friday night really started when the logging laptop died about the
start of the contest with no backup computer (bad plan). So - having logged
more than a few things by hand over the years - "I can do this!" - and not
really expecting much from the basic dipole made from old, on-hand stuff, I was
fine until my pen stopped writing (hmmm - mental note self: use pencils and
have multiple pens). With no electronic memory keyer at my disposal I actually
began the contest with an old but just acquired J-38 straight key - so I really
appologize to the first several stations who had to bear with the hand key
keying.

Saturday started much better with a Vibrokeyer and older electronic keyer set
to about 25 WPM. It worked through the rest of the contest and I really had a
blast working cw 'by hand'. I don't think I butchered too many exchanges
during the process.

By the time it was all through, I'd actually contacted several new
countries/states with the sweet moment being working the ZS6 in South Arica on
Sunday morning.

I'm the second owner of my backup radio (TS-440SAT), and I had a good
opportunity to learn some of it's intricacies and filtering capabilities.
Thanks to Richard, N7NT, for being the original owner and setting up the filter
system when he originally bought it.

Propogation was interesting - stations were either 'in' or 'out' along with a
fair amount of QSB most of the time. The cw protion of the band was quiet,
whereas the phone portion had a noticeable amount of QRN. May be a local
source of noise, so that will give me something to work on later.

Anyway, many thanks to the stations I worked and to the ARRL for sponsoring the
contest.

73,

John, WA7NWL
