Big thanks to Sue, AI6YL/P40YL and Carl, AI6V/P49V for use of the superb
station. You can see the house and station at: http://www.p49v.com/

Kay, K6KO/P40K and I arrived on schedule Wednesday before the contest. We were
greeted as usual by Chris, P43C who had arranged for our licenses with the DTZ.
Among the computers and misc gear we carried was a replacement YAESU FT-2000D
front panel for JP, P43A. YAESU had worked miracles and gotten the panel, not
a USA stock item, out of Japan and special delivered to us two days before our
departure. Get well Dennis.

The contest starts before sunset and I knew from experience that the first hour
is fairly unproductive. I squeezed in up the band a couple of KHz from PJ2T and
started to try and claim a freq. Search and Pounce is very difficult from here
as the US/Canada are working each other and the big stations with directional
receiving antennas are beaming to Europe. I managed a dozen Q's until the band
opened wide about 23:10Z. This contest can be tough as the Europeans don't
understand that you can't work them. Fornutually for me the European opening
the first night seemed weak so people were forced to look south for mults.

Thanks to Alex, KU1CW who had been here for CQWW CW as P40C and had repaired
the 500 ft Beverage that runs out thru the cunucu behind the house/property.
Although not directionally enough to null out the Europeans it is a very quiet
antenna and was used almost exclusively for receiving. Also, thanks to Robert
W5AJ/P40P who had operated CQWW SSB from this station and provided lots of
pointers and info.

As usual the band opens along the East Coast with an occasional W8/9 then as
darkness passes the Mississippi the band is wide open from Texas east. Then
the W0, W7, W6 start to fill in. And as usual all the VE call areas called
except VE4/VE8. KH6ZM did call me at 04Z the second night but nothing heard
from KL7.

Equipment: FT1000D, ETO Alpha 86(1 KW out), Inv Vee, Beverage.

QSL LOTW or WM6A for direct.

P40K will be single op SSB in 10 Meter ARRL Contest December 11/12, please
check ten meters.

Ken, K6TA/P40TA
