This was only my 6th RTTY contest and first fulltime major RTTY contest effort.
Yep, 53 yrs of contesting in CW and SSB modes and I took the RTTY plunge last
year, mostly to assist the Arizona Outlaws Contest Club!

Heck, I am so non-serious about RTTY that I still employ AFSK, and did ok with
that, mostly due to the roofing filter, DSP and PBT options available in the
Orion II. I fooled N1MM/MMTTY into working quite ok.

That's about to change though, as FSK interfaces just shot to the top of the
list for both radios here at K8IA/N7RQ/N7AT. I guess I am RTTY-hooked, yet
that's hard to believe.

I didn't find 20m spectacular this weekend, just "ok". Conditions weren't
totally oppressive though. Being a novice in this contest mode, I didn't know
what the activity level would be nor how I would do. Paths to JA, what is
relied on out here in the wild west for score, were average to poor (less than
200 JA's) and Eu paths quite below average but workable, especially Sunday.
When the Au and K indices fell late Saturday, we had a really nice over the
pole opening into central Asia for a couple of hours. On Sunday morning,
conditions surprised me with a few hours of loud Eu signals beginning an hour
before sunrise.

Kudos to CQ Magazine for putting this on and to W0YK for all his hard work as
contest manager. CU in the next one!

73, Bob K8IA
