Comments:

Used N6KI's station for it's first digital contest!
IC-7800
Steppir Antenna
80M rotatable dipole

Started late and then had ground loop issues so had to stop after 1/2 hour to
figure out how to get around those, so was late getting going on 20. When I
did get going I had to S&P just to find out if I was getting out ok and if
people could copy me...
Finally I started running and things started to move and then the band died
down. I should have moved to 40 I suppose at that time but was getting
mults and qs. I learned a lot but need to learn how to find a good spot to run
in a packed band space. With everyone running 100W there is no such thing as
muscling your way in hi hi.
I did have some software issues - I forgot to grab the computer case before
I came so there was probably some RF getting in. Usually I could fix it by
stopping MTTY and clicking view digital in N1MM, but sometimes I got a
soundcard error and had to quit the program completely and restart. I missed a
few Qs during these times but on occasion found the people still there when I
got it going again... I got quicker restarting as the contest went along.
It was a fun but sadly unimpressive performmance. I'm sure there are a lot
of tricks in his station one could use to tweak RTTY performance - I'll read up
to see what there is out there.
