Comments:
My CW NAQP best score by 27% over my prior best. Now if I can just
get the new Force 12 160 meter verticals working parasitically, I
think I can hit over 200k. Otherwise it is back to the balloon
vertical for 160. Best hour was 110 mostly on 40 meters in the 00 hour.
It seemed like the low bands opened early. Just when I was going to
take my first break in the 2300 hour, 40 was cooking. Then I was
going to take a break in the 01 hour, but 80 was real quiet, so I
went till 0254 before the first break. It was a good thing too,
because 80 got noisy when I came back from the break, and QSOs were
tougher later. The only frustrating thing about running out of time
early was hearing VE6EX (first VE6 heard) on 80, knowing I could
have moved him for a few additional mults.
I've got to remember to move mults to 10, 15 & 20 late in the contest
when conventional wisdom is those bands are closed. I've also got
to remember to check 10 meters more often. I moved K7BG in MT early
down to 40 and figured I'd catch Matt later for 80 & 160, but never
heard him later. Same thing for DE on the low bands. Never heard ME
(no surprise with the ice storm,) SC, HI, VE4 (where was Derrick,) or
any of the Canadian Maritime mults. I had a station portable in VI
lined up on the second radio, but by the time I was ready to call he
had disappeared, never to be heard from again.
Overall, it was a lot of fun. No visits from Murphy.
