Equipment Description: Kenwood TS-450S/AT barefoot

QRM: My third AB effort. My first DX contest using the new
"1 thru 2 over 3 w/ 2 singles on the side" (i.e. rotatable 40m
dipole through 10/15/20m 2 el quad over 10/15/20m 3 el yagi w/
75m inverted V and 160m drooping T on the side) of a single
tower up 76'. Immediately prior to CQ WW I heard a local TN
DXer work JA1ELY on 10m SSB. I called him; but no reply. This
is when I really got pumped for the event, hoping for lots of
DX activity on 10 & 15m for the weekend. I tried to run a few
times with marginal success so this was a 99.9% S&P event for
me. Once again, I wasted too much time waiting for DX to id
their RX frequency on 40m (but I wasted less time than last
year and many lost this valuable Zone 4 QSO :-). Had to move a
local from 10m to 40m to work USA on that band. How else does
one work his own country on 40m when everybody is working split?
Was FB hearing 300kHz of 10m jam packed with DX. I worked all
the EU on 10m heard except for HB9AFI -- just couldn't get
through. Nice to work all the Africans late at night on 20m
(FR5, 9X, Z2, TR, ZS). I did sleep for about 3 hours each night
-- 2 90-minute intervals, which I heard was ideal. I ate granola
bars and drank water. Plus, I stood up occasionally and did
simple exercises while punching the keys to trigger the voice
keyer. While I "sat in the chair" longer than last year I do
need to stay put longer for any significant improvement. Adverse
wx did cause me to shut down a couple times but nothing major.
While I didn't work any all time new countries, I did pick up
some new band/mode countries. All in all, this was a most
excellent journey around the world in a weekend. To top it off,
I watched the Marlins win the 7th game of the World Series (in
extra innings, mind you)! Thanks to all of you for the Qs!
(BTW, FB turn-out from Tennesseans with 2 teams and good club
effort. Go Team Tennessee LP & HP and TCG!) CU on CW in WW.
