WRTC Resume For

N4GN

I was first licensed in 1976 as WN4UYU, later WA4UYU and KJ4VH. I also hold a Finnish license, OH4GN.

Although I have been involved in serious contest efforts since the late 1980s, most of my experience has been as part of multi-op teams: VS6WO, HC8N, N4AR, AA6TT, J37DX/J37H/J3A, W2GD, PJ9T, C21BH, TF3IRA, OJ0/OH1VR, etc.

As a single operator, I set the QRP world record in WPX CW from VP2MU in 1991. (This record was recently broken by P40W.)

I am just starting to build a contest station at my home. I currently have a 90-ft tower with a C4XL, two C3s, an 80-meter inverted V and a 160-meter inverted L. With this station, I won the Great Lakes Division plaque for SS CW (high power) in both 1999 and 2000. In 1999, my score was also tops for the entire Central Region.

In the 2000 CQ WW CW, I will have one of the top scores for zone 4. My claimed score was just over 4 million points.

Some years back (1990?), I also had a top ten finish in NAQP SSB.

At WRTC 1996, I was a referee for the DL1VJ/DL5XX team (K6D). I attended WRTC 2000 as a spectator, and also operated the 20-meter station as part of the S50ZRS HQ multi-op.

In addition to HF CW and SSB contesting, I am also active in RTTY contesting and VHF/UHF/microwave contesting. I set a new single operator world record in the 2000 CQ WW RTTY contest from EA8BH, breaking the old record by 50%.

I have operated from more than 35 DX locations, including BQ9P, BS7H (1994 and 1995), OH0/N4GN, OJ0/N4GN, 3A/OH4GN, H44DX, H40AA, V2/KJ4VH, BT1X, 4U1ITU, CN8FC, TA1ITU and VP2MDH.
