WRTC Resume For

K9NW

I was first licensed as KA0DOO in 1979. My first contest was the 1979 ARRL 10 Meter Contest which I just happened to stumble across....and I was hooked! In 1980 I received N0BSH which I held until November 1996 when I received K9NW. Through 1985 most of my operating was from my home station in Minnesota, with Phone SS Multi-op efforts from K9FYZ, my DXing mentor, from 1981 - 1983. I entered all kinds of contests, acheiving a few top section scores here and there, though I considered myself mostly a participant rather than competitor. But there was desire to do more....

In February 1986 I met W0AIH and a whole new chapter in my contesting career began. I now had access to one of the biggest stations in the world. Prior to my arrival, the 'AIH crew was mostly a CW group. I may have been part of the reason that W0AIH started to appear on a regular basis in the major phone contests. In addition to multi-ops in CQ WW, ARRL DX, and SS, I did quite a number of single op efforts in WPX, IARU, Sprints, QSO parties and the like.

In 1993 I became part of the KS9K/W9JA crew where we started to transform that station from a phone only station to a player in the CW contests as well. Also in 1993 I started a tour of sorts with KA9FOX, visiting a number of prominent multi-op stations over the next couple years.

In 1994, I joined KA9FOX and K4MA at PJ8Z, the first operation from the DX side for all of us. I have been DX for at least one contest every year since.

In more recent times I've been operating from K9UWA in Indiana where I've hit the bands with a vengence, making up for lots of lost time while apartment bound since my move to Ohio three years ago.

I've been an operator, either single or multi, at quite a number of stations.

US stations include:
W0AIH, WB9YXY, KM0O, K3LR, W3LPL, WA9CDY, KW8N, KU8E, K9FYZ, K0TO, KS9K, WE9V, W9UP, NQ4I, K4LT, N8NR, W0UC, N6TR.

DX Stations include:
V47NZ, PJ8Z, FS5PL, TI5N, FG5BG, KP4WI, WP3/WX9E, KH7R, 6D2X, WP3/WX9E

I've operated literally hundreds of contests and have experience on all bands from 1.8MHz - 1296Mhz, single op and multi op, DX and domestic, HF and VHF.
