Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

If any group could sponsor a "contest within a major contest" such that the exchange, starting and ending dates and times were precisely those specified by the major sponsor but the categories and the rules for scoring were of the sponsoring group's design who would you submit a log to?

What's next?
Those who will fail to win piece of paper in 24 hour contest, will start asking for 6 hours, 3 hours, 1 hour,...?

Yea, lets have a category for SO2R, SO3R, SO4R, tribanders, fourbanders, fivebanders, Dipoles, Tricycles, 4wheelers .....

This will give one real satisfaction where heshe stands.

If someone asked to judge marathon for 12 miles, 6 miles ... it would be considered ridiculous, but in ham radio this is "great", just like "working" DX on the list. RF must be getting into some brains. Lets stay sane and forget the garbage. Spend your time in improving your station and honing your operating skills, rather than figuring the "advantages".

P.S.
Yea, let the CQ run contests, and some clever heads will take a free ride on it. Only hams can be so "inventive"

UBN/LCR
Sylvan, you make a good point. Also, having the operator send in a textual UBN report would be a potential source of mischief. Perhaps the CWC sponsors/participants will simply have to tolerate a significant reduction in the percentage of QSOs checked for the immediate future.

Open Source log check/scoring software
Unfortunately, if CWC were to adopt a policy that "those submitting to the CWC must also supply their final UBN/LCR reports (generated by the "real" sponsor) in order to qualify" is probably unworkable because you usually have to be a member of the sponsoring organization to get this information. This will exclude a lot of contestants. A foundation notion of CWC is to encourage more participation in contests by addressing a wide variety of concerns and needs of the International contesting community. Perhaps we need some open source log checking/scoring software that is built and maintained by the contest community for use by all CWC sponsors.

This Already Happens
During most weekends with more than one contest/sprint active somewhere in the world, having some overlap in inevitable. The Oceania DX and CAQP overlap neatly with identical exchanges, Jubillee/Asia Sprint, SEANet and RD Contest(VK), and YV/ZL contests also overlap. There is lots of others, and with careful planning of exchanges (ie pour over rules beforehand). I use MS Excel to do these multi-contest logs which keeps the complexity down.

Multiple submissions
I'm sure once this kind of "contest within a contest" (CWC) becomes workable, someone could implement, on a website (say contesting.com or hornucopia.com) some easy-to-use interface so that contesters could submit one log to multiple "destinations" (whatever they might be) in a single email.

Independent groups could create these CWCs and announce the "rules" beforehand, supplying an email address, etc. Without access to all the logs sent to the main sponsor (CQ for example) the log-checking by these independents would suffer. Perhaps some kind of workaround could be constructed whereby those submitting to the CWC must also supply their final UBN/LCR reports (generated by the "real" sponsor) in order to qualify.

Half contest
For years I've felt that I don't want to push myself past the point where the contest is fun, and now that I'm older, it might even be unhealthy to go 48hours. So I'd love to see someone run a 1/2 contest, where the rules are the same, but you can only work 1/2 of the total time.

I bet this could attract additional activity from casual ops who feel as I do, but can't win if it means not sleeping.

Yes, I would submit more logs but only if my contestig software supported it or the submission was relativly easy.

Multiple log submissions
There's no rule against double-submitting, now, is there?

Nice idea about making things more fair for the guys in CQWW 160m contest
for example by changing multipliers in new rules.
