Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

There are so many aspects of contesting that get us to come back every year, but once you've sat down and launched into the contest, what's your favorite part?

DXs, Results, Fun
A contest. Sometime the contests are very fun! It's true! Just when I'm operating I'm resting. But sometime I'm operating mostly for DXs. Yup! I think there's many stations working only for DXs, but almost every time I'm working for better result than last year. And that's the contest , I think. To get the best result. (even I have not good antennas or so).

Rate vs. Previous best. Hmmm...
While surpassing my previous best is one of the goals I set for each 'test, I can't help it: I'm just a rate junkie at heart! From the looks of it, it seems that I'm in good company!

Finally the REAL test.
It's the personal satisfaction of all of your efforts coming together. The antenna work, station modifications and personal stamina finally getting the real test. Why else do the work if you can't play the game.

More choices?
Sorry there weren't a few more choices. The site only allows seven choices maximum. That's why I included "other"!

OTHER PLUS
I would suggest adding
another category to the
survey - Propagation -
the major contests bring about more activity from all over the world on a given weekend than any other type of general
operating and keeping contacts short allows
for the most world wide
coverage possible. The
ever changing propagation
and the surprises that
result from it are my
favorite part of contesting and have kept
my interest for 44 years.
The challenges never end and hey best of all unlike athletic competitions you're not
all washed up after age 40! - KS7T 11/20/2000

Juicy Mults
Thinking back about my contesting experiences, the thing that seems to jump out at me is the instant energy rush and excitement I get when a juicy mult answers my CQ. Having SU9ZZ call me in the middle of an EU run, having VU2TS call in during a JA run, or having VY1JA call in for the sweep is just awesome.

All of the above!

missing option
I'd say ALL of them!

"OTHER"
Couldn't vote different than "other".
My favourite part is dealing and succeding with the challange I've chosen to front, and the challange is each time different somehow.
I like to front with serious competitors because there's always to learn if the opponent is a strong one.
I'd feel bored, or conceited to only compete against myself.

Mults
Using the 2nd radio to find Q's and mults. Just running guys gets borning in about 30 minutes for me any more.

Every single answer, at some time, applies to my love of & for contests. The rate meter is the most "obvious," that is, immediate or easiest indicator of how well one may be doing. And we all enjoy rate, I think. I truly enjoy doing well, so measuring against past scores or success also inspires me. Meeting friends, other competitors and folks who you admire, is also a large part of the camaraderie one finds in contesting. It's a great fraternity of great people with solid skills, who enjoy, tremendously, sharing that intensity.

Previous best
Oh the relief on Sunday afternoon, CQWW, when I passed the record target, and then climbed on getting further and further ahead, past the UBN uncertainty, pushing the envelope and thinking "this one will last till the next solar peak".
