160 and 10
|
160 was the cause of much experiment until I found the way to feed the tower as a vertical. Even now, receive antennas for 160 are still a case for experimenting. A 4ele monobander for 10 at 68 feet never seems to give me the edge I feel it should, especially when the band is open - I feel it may be too high, and I really need another lower one in a stack.

Antenna Experiments

Sadly, I'm still trying to find the right antenna for 160m. Sadder yet, I'm still trying to find time to TRY other antennas for 160m! HI HI!

With limited space, it has always been fun trying different loops and bends of the doublet here. Each year brings on a nice surprise or two, especially when I try QRP.

Another vote for 21 MHz

I don't have a tower or beams. The G5RV never worked very well on 15m, and I blew up a Cushcraft R7 calling E44/HA1AG on RTTY. So I put up a single-element delta loop in the trees and it works very well. I have a Hygain AV-640 vertical now, but use the delta loop most of the time.
I did find that the G5RV worked best in the evening when A52A was on the air from Bhutan. That is the only time I can remember when that antenna was best.

only 4% so far on 15. 15 has always been a very tough band for me. I have never had anything that loud here at home, but even when i had a A4S up, 15 was always my weakest band. At K9ZOs, Ralph and I have also noticed that even with 4el at 75ft, it is still one of the weaker bands. Must be a 9 land thing? Guess you need a stack on 15 to be loud from here? hmmm wonder if anyone else has trouble being really loud on 15...

160M & 40M

Prior to raising any towers here, I was
weak on 40M. The only good antennas have
been: Half-Square/Bobtail North/South to
JA. EU: Have had good performance from
wire beams; 4,5 and 6L at 50 to 70ft up.
Yeah know they work when you make only
one or two calls on 40SSB on the first
night of a contest. Charlie - N1RR
