Not too bad due to
|
Single Band 15m with 100watts and a coaxial dipole is not the normal recipe for a semi-serious contest attempt.
A 5 hour break during pileup time to appease the "boss" doesn't help either.
But still managed to bag nearly 1400 QSO's - no not due to brilliant operating but a good callsign and even better listeners out there ;-)
Thanks everyone for the fun - unfortunately my last CQWW from ZC4 for a while (a measly G4KIV next year !!)

I made 1307 Qs, but I had learned so much about contesting and propagation. I cannot want for next contest to see results when I begin in right way. TU de PY8AZT

First CQ WW DX CW
|
A new ham, been licensed for about 1.5 years. Had a blast, operating QRP with an attic antenna. Not too fast with the QSO rate, from 1 to 20 per hour, but was happy to get a multiplier of 166.

Did better than expected with 400w to Carolina Beam (40-10m)and 135ft long wire; First contest with only wire antennas. Great location overlooking the ocean (abt 1000m away). First contest with 756PRO, really great rig but I still have a lot to learn operating it in contest, HI. Score: 2740 Qs = 2.8 mil; tnx to everyone for the contacts.

Propagation Black Hole
|
For more than 16 hours there were no signals to be heard on any band. Trapped once more in a Propagation Black Hole over VE5-land. No entry this year :-(

Thanks

Thanks to all of you who battled to receive my puny QRPp signals on 15m. The 599s were much appreciated! 500+ Qs and 96 mults was far better than I expected to do with 5W to an inverted Vee G5RV! Great Fun!

it was fun anyway
|
I am never operating CQWW in serious manner due to restricted antenna farm ,health problems not permitting operate so long and XYL's QRMs...But this year I 've operated over 30 hours even without planing to do this:it was maybe last chance before next sunspot peak to have a fun(Shall we be on air then at all???).And I had it inspite of hectic Saturday condx:It was begining of the contest and much to work anyway, and when Aurora dissipated real fun started for me.So I 've reached my personal best in WW -2400 Q's .

No matter what the conditions are, this contest is always a blast. If they had a CQWW CW contest every month, it would be a beautiful thing. Of course, the rest of my family might not agree. Whenever I take a break from the contest, I hear random cw in ambient background noise. It usually takes a few hours for this syndrome to pass. Wonder if there's a medical term for this? :) It sure would be nice to get some better openings on 160 meters.

Bad propagation??
|
Reading above post I must admit that propagation was very good despite of Aurora which affected everyone ! The second day I could work almost all stations I probably missed the first day. You ( complaining ones ) will be very sorry in two - three years from now when the cycle will go down and your score will be one-third of the year 2001 :-)). That was a great time to improve many personal records ( see 3830 stories ).
I'd like to thank to all guys who copied my QRP signals for their patience. See you in ARRL 10M next month.

...lower than plan
|
I planned to reach 1 Meg with less than 1,200 Q's.
Due to bad condx on Saturday, I needed to
work rate (1,500 Q's) just to get 780K.
Regardless of bad condx, a lot of fun with CW, using just 2 antennas:
- Twin Slopper DX-A, for 160-80-40, apex @ 45 ft.
- Force12 VR-3, for 20-15-10

PA5AT in CQWW SOSB 80m LP
|
I tryed the contest for the first time from home as PI4COM was not in the air, unfortunately as M/M this year...
Unbelievable, what is possible from 12m x 8m lot with a simple 11m high L-ant and 100wtts...
roughly 640/11/59 is the reference from my home qth with LP for next time... if I am not running PI4COM for certainly MUCH more...hi

Two answers
|
I participated from the K0RF multi-op. To say that we did worse than anticipated is certainly true. However, I believe we also came away satisfied that we gave one heck of an effort for the poor conditions that existed.
We found a way to make lemon out of lemonade.

Talk about Murph'

Bad propagation on Saturday coupled with all kinds of antenna problems doesn't make for a great score! Got to find time to get antenna issues sorted before the snow flies.

Poor Score
|
Working QRP in 40 meter, with bad propagation
turn the contest as a nightmare for me. Few QSO + low numbers of multipliers = very poor score.
See you in ARRL 10.
