Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

ARRL DX Contest

I quit operating in the ARRL DX contest because I could only work US Mainland stations. And they could work the World. To Me that makes no since what so ever. The title of the contest is ARRL "DX" Contest right. So why cant we work everyone and not just US Mainland stations. If not then change the name to ARRL North America Contest since only North American stations can work DX and nobody else to me that is not a DX contest.

distance based scoring

This is only important if you are not located close to big radio population like NA, EU or JA.

Since I'm contesting from New Zealand I face new challenges. Look at an azimutal map (for ZL) and draw a circle at 10000km. What you see is water plus Australia and Antarctica. There is not a single accountable radio polulation within this range. Within 10,000 km you find HAMs for about 100-200 QSO's.

In history were only 3 world wins from Oceania for e.g. the CQWW CW. Those were in the 60's/70's from Hong Kong and Hawaii. To get there we have the first 10000 km already done...

For valuating the achievment distance based scoring would be only fair.
Anyhow I join the next contests from here knowing no matter what I invest or how hard I try I barely make it into the top ten world.

No matter what the scoring method it's still fun to work stations in America from this far away!

ARRL DX

I work this contest with a 100W tube finals rig and a 15/20/40 fan dipole. I do it for the love of ham radio and just getting out there. I know I have no change to "win" but I believe it is a hobby for fun. I still get contacts out to 8200 miles with good reports working with just the basics. Leave it the way it is. Better operating skills might help along with gaining some experience reading band conditions.

ARRL DX

Please just leave it the way it is.
The ARRL DX is a great contest.
We have other contests, MF and VHF, that are based on grid squares. If you like that type of scoring participate in those contests.

As many of you know, all of this discussion is based upon a "big gun" who has not been in the "Top 10" boxes as many times as some other big gun stations have.

Sorry but not everyone can have "front row center seats". That's just a fact of life.

From all the information I have read this op has a top notch multi-multi station. He is constantly upgrading his station to keep it competitive and has great ops.

My feeling on this is he might not be in the right geographic area to achieve his goals.

All of us who play the contesting game, have somewhere on Earth that is a pain to work.

So why complain or have the rules change.
If you are in the wrong geographic location, and it bothers you that much, either live with it or move.

Since this is ONLY A HOBBY, just have fun. If you spend alot of money to have your fun that all up to the individual.

I just hope the ARRL DX contest stays the way it is.

Whatever the rules are I will compete as long
as I can have fun - when it gets boring I will
find another allocation for the weekend.
Distance based for DX stations would give
Africa, Oceania and Eastern Europe a chance
against the Carribean and South America if it
was weighted adequately...

I enjoy distance based scoring in the Stew
Perry, I enjoy zone based scoring in CQ WW and
I enjoy country based scoring in the ARRL DX. I
would much rather see the ARRL go back to full
entrant/score reporting in QST to increase
participation than change rules.
