Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

80 METERS A REAL CHALLENGE!!
DX CONTESTING ON 80 IS A REAL CHALLENGE! EVEN WITH THE RIGHT ANTENNAS ONE NEEDS LOTS OF PATIENCE TO PULL THE CALLS OUT OF THE QRN/QRM/MUD ETC. NEVER ASSUME YOU KNOW THE BAND. IN CQWW THE BAND WAS OPEN TO EUROPE FROM THE EAST COAST AT 3:30 PM! ANYONE CAN WORK THE HIGHER BANDS--80 (AND 160) ARE THE TOUGHIES!!

JA RULE
DO HE HAVE A CONTEST?

LOCAL QSO
10 m is best for DX QSO (no local station from Russia)

Old reliable
20 meters is that. 'Sfunny that 10m can be in good shape (evidenced by beacon sigs & how strong the W1AW code practice session is!) with nobody using it; 40m can be great if you can HEAR anybody over all the racket; 80 & 160 require being a Nightowl to really appreciate; 30's cool for QRP-CW and always offers surprises...but, faced with the need to make an immediate decision and get on the air to work DX RIGHT NOW, with a non-ham visitor in the shack: I'll automatically pick 20m.

Always playing, always active, always open to somewhere...

Favorite HF Band
I like the challenge of the night-time bands.
For me, 40 CW is the place to be. 160 would be my favorite, except the activity on both 160 and 80 meters has been so sparse since the 70's decade.

Top & Largest Band
Great antennas for great Ham!!

160m
Definitelly 160m. Bigest thrill to hunt DX.

Favorite HF BAND - 40m !!
Given a decent antenna 40m is reliable year
in year out. a wonderful band for contesting.
Many operators have NEVER heard 40m with
a decent antenna - as in yagi above 90 feet !
40m gives wonderful opennings to JA from
western USA, likewise it gives long openning
to europe from eastern USA.

40m RULES !!!

80m - Not like shooting fish in a barrel !
Unlike some of the higher bands where working DX tends to be like "shooting fish in barrel", 80m ( as well as 160m) constitute much more of a challenge not to mention fewer lids!

40 Rulezzzzz!
Land of my world records from LU1IV in both cq ww wpx cw and cq ww dx cw
Years:
AZ4F wpx cw 1994
LU1IV wpx cw 1996
LU1IV ww dx cw 1996 LP
LU1IV wpx cw 1997
The biggest thrill ever was hearing EU long path at 1200 UTC! I guess LU1IV's really big antennas helped a lot!

Favorite HF Band
Why 160 of course. Every other band is like catching fish in a barrell.

10 Meters
As they say, "There's no meters like 10 Meters"!

40 mts
Love dx on low bands.
Usualy 40 mts give me extra satisfation, on short and long distance.
Like 80 but got a lot of dificults , need very high antenna for a good job.

Toss up...

For me it's a toss up between 10 and 40 meters. 40 is open year round all throughout the solar cycle, however, with 10 meters and sporadic-E prop. the band can come alive at any point during the cycle, and it's very unpredictable, thus making it more of a challenge. Plus there's less QRM and far more room to operate, so I have to say that 10 meters is my favorite HF band. As for my favorite Amateur Radio band of all? 6-meters, no question about it. However, all of the Amateur Radio bands have their "moments" and I love them all very much. I'm active on all bands (160M-23cm), all modes. You have to love it! 73 Clinton AB7RG/9

160M - Topband in more than just name
I must echo WW2Y's sentiment. Wires, trees and loss of sleep are the hallmarks of this band. What could be better?

Favorite Bands
The DX will "always" operate on 20 Meters!

15 vs 17
Where's the connection between these bands ?
Likewise 12 and 10 ? As a contest freak the WARC bands don't fit for me 99 % of the time
I Find 15 meters fun and very unpredictable band !

Posted by VO1MP on May 30, 2001

40M
Always open to somewhere, around the clock, around the year, around the sunspot cycle!

Posted by VE2DC on May 30, 2001

Peculiar Question Design
Now why in the world would anyone lump 17m with 15m and 12m in with 10m. Why wasn't 30m lumped in with 20m? 15m is my favorite band and 17m is a non-starter. Very peculiar!

Posted by VE5ZX on May 30, 2001

Favorite HF Band
I found a new love with 30m. There are less croccodiles (Big moth - small ears) than on other bands. More low power stations and CW only - althrough I still have a hard time with high-speed CW, but I keep working on it.

Mmmmmh
the only band i don't really like is 20m... but i voted for 80m since it was the first band i ever operated on and i have made many nice QSO's there... 73, dj1yfk

Like all bands
I like all bands. And every band has his specials.

Depends
I've voted for 40 meters because over the entire cycle, it's always magic (of course, it would suck if I were a phone man). But 10 meters has its share of magic too. On the whole, 40 and 80 are the coolest HF bands to me--160 is actually an MF band, or it would make the list too. :-)

160m is my favorite band
You can have a competitive setup on 160m by using multiple wires in trees.
It costs so little.

Favorite HF Band
I am sure that I will appreciate the rest of the HF bands as the solar cycle goes down but right now I find the 10m band very interesting, never knowing when or where the band openings are happenig. 73
