Those who can't handle the extra pile up from a packet spot retire....those with pile up management skills look forward to it.

Clusters and Skimmers are just a tool. Nothing more. Not using them would be similar to not wanting to use a radio with transistors. "Why change a good thing. Besides, the tube's glow looks pretty at night."

I disagree with Boyan these things are not the same as using other gadgets because they affect the fun of others. The effect of sudden uncontrollable piles is no fun from the Dx end even outside contests.

Contesting was fun before this stuff and is still fun with or without it.

Skimmers and Clusters are the same technical stuff like computers, logging s/w, beams, modern radios etc. If someone doesn't like them, let he don't use them. Contacts are made by people, not by gadgets.

You got it spot on Gary. I agree 100%. Let those with limited skill use skim and clusters.73. Michael G1WFK

As is often the case, the real importance is often in the way the question is asked, not necessarily answered. DX clusters and skimmer are very different and may have different answers to the question of more fun. By combining them the answers loose alot of significance.
