Current Survey Question
Do you plan to enter the CQ WW
DX Contest?
Recent Surveys
Recently the RDXC committee
reclassified P3F to
high
power from low power without
publicly
providing strong evidence
that any
infraction had occurred.
They
concluded was that the
contestant was
running HP on 80/40m but
not full-time, just 10
minutes here
and there without any
convincing
evidence. It appears they
used the RBN as their source
of information. Should the
RXDC
contest have
to publicly provide
convincing
evidence before
reclassifying a
station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar
titled "
Convergence and Change" in
the 2015
CQWW CW printed results in
CQ
magazine. He wrote that the
"convergence of personal
computers,
Internet access,
DX clusters, and CW Skimmer
have
changed the nature of
CW contesting". He goes to
say that it
is "more difficult to police
the line
between the
single operator working
alone and
those who are using the
assistance of DX spotting."
In light of this convergence
and
change is it time to
recombine SO and
SOA into a single category?

At the recent International DX Convention held in Visalia The World Wide Radio Operators Foundation, Inc. (WWROF) was announced (check out www.wwrof.org). Its mission is dedicated to improving the skills of amateur radio operators around the world, utilizing education, competition, advancement of technology and scientific research, promoting international friendship and goodwill,
and preparing them to better serve society in times of communication
need. The WWROF founders are concerned that the infrastructure currently used to support and adjudicate many events was funded by volunteers. New enhancements to the contest-administration process will require significant financial support, and until now there has been no independent organization to raise and administer such funds. What do you think of this idea?

I find the purpose statement a bit vague and confusing. I wonder what are the concerns of the WWROF regarding the infrastructure currently used. What is wrong with "volunteers funding many events."
Early on there was information about a new group forming and not sure if this group is one in the same. The other group spoke about the qualifications to join that went something like, long cw qsos with members and having to be nominated. Is this the case with the WWROF.

Jim,
I used to think like you do...but realized you are where you are and can not change that..
As you know location, location, location..
I am a contester...and have been since my early days on KH2. And have learned you can do only as you can do...but be the best you can be with what you have..
My thing is the WPX SSB and have been beat by guys on the east coast.. I am in the middle of the states...competing against both coast lines..but to be #2 for the last 2 years plus low power and #10 in the world...not to bad I would think.. considering all that i have to compete against.. I have been in the top 5/10 for years... and I continue to get better..
thus the #2 spot I have got to.. can not complain...
There will always be someone with more money and ability to put up the station you can only dream of.. so why fret over something you can not change..
To me the "big guys" know who I am. And they are always great to give me contacts and me of them..
Would I like to get in FLA or some guest place to run once yes..but it is nice to let the rest of them know that I am always in the mix of it all..
that is the fun of it..radio is supposed to be fun..that I treat it so..

What contesting needs is a restructuring of the scoring rules so that hams outside the Atlantic basin can be competitive. There was an excuse for simple-minded rules 80 years ago when most of these contests began, but with modern computers, scores with more complex rules that allow far more operators and stations to be competitive. The Boring Amateur Radio Club has given us a fine example with their Stew Perry contest, and WPX is another that spreads the joy around.
But I'm getting very tired of seeing operators who have the good fortune to live on the East coast of the US or in Europe exalted as champs when I know very well that a lot of operators who live elsewhere and have built great stations would be challenging them on a more level playing field.
And while you're at it, how about a campaign to "out" the guys who cheat by running illegal power, rather than "winking" at their larger than life signals? And how about DQing the guys who splatter 10 kHz wide?

I want to put here the some text paragraphs of the GACW Bod resolution:
GACW Bod RESOLVE:
Do publish his support to the Foundation WWROF.
Effect a testimonial donación in name of the GACW/WWSA with the object to contribute to the strengthening of the Foundation.
Maintain narrow links of understanding and contribute to the development of the Fundation when it´s possible.

Contest Funding
|
The main problem with contesting today is the over-proliferation of contesting, with up to 15 contests at the same time on the same weekend. Check out WA7BNM. Often you can run at least 4 domestic or international contests at the same time on narrowly-separated on non-separated band segments.

The targets seem two-fold
|
There is a target of operator skills world-wide.
There is a target of contest organising world-wide.
I think promoting the skills and technologies world-wide is a great idea.
However, driving for contributing in this manner for organising events is something at least I do not want to see.
There simply are too many events in the world and it is impossible to support them with an equivalent way; that would be one basis of radio amateur competition.
But, for driving towards better contesting understanding, operator skills, technology knowledge and tech utilisation - this is outstanding.
Good idea - expecting good work.
Keep on doing.
