Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

when one is running a weak station with CCR acceptable antennae, CW seems to be the way to go.

cw operating
Jon G8CCL makes a good point about all the automation in CW contesting. Actually, with all the automation (keyers, keyboards, cw readers, writelog, dxer database, skimmer), maybe SSB is the old-fashioned mode. No SSB skimmer yet, is there?

cw contests
The way things are going we can look forward to the first eqso contest, wow no antennas to put up. it sucks.been away from ham radio and contesting for 25yrs and how things have changed from paper logs/check sheets to all this ,don't get me wrong I run a SDR transceiver and could have voice keyers, loggers et all, but as I said, we might as well have Internet contests ,stand by to be slaughtered

I'd have to totally agree with the comment made by NV9X. REAL CW ... with operators that Know-Code.

The RTTY contest are hard to beat.

SSB contest are really tough, I still enjoy them, but it's a lot easier to make QSOs on RTTY and CW.

See you in the ARRL DX SSB this weekend!

RTTY
I originally got started doing Phone contests and later got into RTTY and then CW contesting to work on DXCC, WAS for CW.

Now days I like RTTY contesting when I want to do a serious effort. I also enjoy CW contest for brushing up on my skill, chasing DX and just relaxin and handing out some points to the serious CW ops. I will operate some phone tests if I have spare time and nothing going on or there is some DX to get.

Love CW contests. I mean real CW. No code
readers, keyboards, memory keyers. There are
hams doing CW contesting that do not know any
CW.
