What is your guess? Do you think there will be sunspots for the CQWW SSB Oct 24-25?

The new CQWW rules say "A competitor who wishes to be judged for a top score in their category must agree to a potential visitation at any time during the contest by an observer appointed by the CQ WW Contest committee. Failure of the entrant to respond to our correspondence or to allow an observer full access to the contest QTH may result in the competitor being removed from award eligibility for 3 years." What do you think about the new rule?

A new category - Xtreme - has been added to the CQWW contest (see http://cqww.com/CQ_WW_Xtreme_Rules.pdf for details). The Xtreme category encourages the development of new technologies in amateur radio communications in general and contesting in particular. Entries in this category will be evaluated on two equally-weighted dimensions, score and innovation. Will you consider entering the Xtreme category?

As of March 29, 2009, foreign broadcast stations were to cease operating on 40 meters between 7100 and 7200 KHz. During the WPX SSB contest did you notice a decrease in broadcast QRM between 7100 and 7200 KHZ?

Sunspots for CQ-WW-DX-SSB
Sunspots may be overrated; in the same sense that 1929-1934 or so was called a 'Depression'. If everybody gets the idea that there are no sunspots, and therefore no propagation, they'll listen in the hope of an opening, but *Won't Transmit*, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy!

No sunspots for the CQWW SSB
The power of positive thinking prevails...we WILL have 80 meters...and maybe even a short 160 meter opening to Central Asia!

15m opening
The stations are developing so we do no longer really need a direct path opening between Europe and North America's Eastern parts.
A decent amount of antenna gain at each end provides to contacts almost regardless conditions.
That is, we can get some QSOs through.
But real good runs need more than 0,73 sunspots.
I hope the SFI will be at 75-85 level. That would produce great conditions if compared to anything we have had during the last couple of years.
