Mine is a corner of my unfinished workshop, which has never been optimal. Stuff is always competing for space. I have the lumber, but not the time, to build a 10 x 13-foot radio room in the basement, complete with raised, insulated floor. I guess I'll get to build it just before my dad asks me to return his pneumatic framing nailer. :-)

At the present time , my ham shack is part of our bedroom.
Not bad for now since wife and I work different times; but this
summer it will be moved into a separate small bedroom as
soon as my son and his wife finish moving out. Not too big,
but big enough for my radio equipment and all my computers.

My Shack

My ham shack began as a linen closet that was constructed by removing a doorway that led from the living room to the back yard. It's now got a computer desk and bookshelf accommodates all my ham radio equipment. When I'm not hamming, I close the folding door and everything disappears from view.

My new contesting location deep in the desert of the Southwest will include a shack in a corner of a rusty 10 x 30' metal overseas shipping container. 4 old blankets will be used as curtains forming a tiny room around the card table, holding in the heat from the 800 watt electric heater and the additional heat from the equipment. The heater also will hold the load on the generator a little bit more steady as the transmitter is keyed on and off.

Ham Shack

My shack is one corner (20' x 12') of my 40' x 56' -- 2,240 sq ft shop/shack about 200' from my house. The "shack" is part of my 5 acre farm in rural central MN. I've got a great view in all directions. I must share my love for radios with other "toys" like my lathe, vertical mill, table saws, routers, sanders, drills, etc. I also maintain my 20' x 12' office (I'm a self-employed accountant) as part of the building as well.

The "shack" is actually a small electronics lab (the result of many years of collecting) complete with HP 141T spectrum analyser (3 plug-ins cover 10 khz to 22 ghz), an HP 606 (low HF generator), and HP 608D (10mHz to 470mHz generator), Tektronics 7704A and 7604 scopes with 250 mHz plug-ins, HP 8690B sweeper (2 plug-ins cover <100kHz to 2gHz), HP 8614A (.8 to 2.4 gHz generator) as well as complete sets of parts (surface mount and leaded). The work bench surrounds the room, which also holds the ham gear.
It serves me well. I enjoy making stuff. Better yet, making working stuff work better. The tower and antennas are all outside and some on the roof. The building is heated with wood so it can be -30F here in MN and I am warm and toasty in my shack.
The HF rig is an IC-746 and SB-1000 linear, plus some two meter and etc, etc.

My ham shack at my contest-QTH is a caravan. It is an old one but very nice for contesting! It has a desk, a chair, elektric power, water and a heathing. What more do I need for contesting ;-) !

A 7ft x 10x area in the corner of the basement. I have the studs up and the door in, but that's it. there are 2 48" windows facing west right in front of the desk; the coax feeds come thru the partially open window, though I do seal around the coax as best as I can. But it can get COLD in the wee hours of Sunday during sweepstakes.
This Saturday night the Pennsylvania lottery will be worth about $10M cash; I think I'll put up the drywall if I win.......

The "Mancave" (as my wife calls it) is a separate room built in my detached garage. 10x16' seems to be a reasonable size, with my workbench and operating table, 2 7' equipment racks and shelving for the icky bits. During contests, the amps provide all the heat needed to get the place over 90! A bit TOO well insulated...
100A AC service, 3500w electric heater, plenty of AC outlets (110v, 220v) all around the place. No water or waste, but then again if I put those in there, I'd NEVER be seen again! Eventually, we're thinking of attaching a garage to the house, thus making the entire area available for my ham palace. Mmmmmmm. 24'x32' of pure ham bliss.
So, Rus - since you posted this topic - tell us about YOUR shack, hmmm? (Don't lie, I've seen it!)

Whether or not thre's a contest, my radio
shack is a room of its own. I obtained my
license at the same time our (wife and I)
new house was under construction. The floor
plan was flexible enough to allow for a
small 7 foot by 8 foot room on the second floor directly over the downstair's entrance
and hallway. It has a window overlooking the
front yard to the east. I was indeed very
fortunate to allow accomodations for the
this hobby!

Radio Central (Ham Shack)

For 40 years, my radio room was in leftover space from household needs. Now I have a radio room that is a separate 18'x14' room that we incorporated into the design of our home when we built it new in 1997. It shares a wall with the kitchen which is away from sleeping spaces. The room has two entries - thru the bath from the mudroom (which also goes to the kitchen) that comes from the garage and courtyard and the 2nd entry from the Screen porch. Access to the outside is speedy. The room has: (a) two sets of three 4 inch PVC ports 2 ft off floor on different walls for cables to outside, (b) dedicated 240 VAC for power amp, (c) separate 120VAC power branch circuits from main AC breaker panel and separate from alternate power generator breaker panel, (c) its own bath with shower and urinal, (d) its own cool/heat exhaust ductwork.
The room has a draftsman table, a workbench with 3 inch thick top of laminated maple, a homebuilt radio operating table, an oldtimey steel desk, a 6' sturdy folding work table, book cases, a wall unit for TV and junk, a 36"w x 72"h plastic storage shelf unit for junk. The room is full! Much of my boxes of radio spare parts, coax cable supplies, and radio magazines are in the 25'x40' workshop, a separate finished concrete block building. de K4LDR Citrus County, FL (55 miles Nth of Tampa airport)
