What is the maximum number of hours you would like to see for the single operator class in the CQWW WPX RTTY contest? (RTTY is currently at 30 hours while the Phone and CW contests allow 36 hours)

It was a mistake to change the CW/SSB to 36. 30hours gives the contest a nice strategy decision.Which 30hours? Any idiot can just bash away for 48 and assume they will have picked up the best conditions somewhere in there. However, the knowledge of when the bands are best takes some skill!

36 hours works for me, still had stamina and a lot of stations not worked yet on the lower bands... 4Z8BB / WC1X

I would prefer them all to be 30 hours. I still think that it was a bad decision to change the CW contest to 36.

Stick with 30 Hours

"Not running out of stations to work" is a poor reason for lengthening a contest period. By the same logic, the ARRL RTTY Round-Up should be increased from 24 to 36 hours. There is a range of contest periods from 30 minutes to 48 hours throughout the year. It is good to have this diversity for the varied interests of all participants. Contests where the operating limit is less than the overall contest period introduce an additional element of strategy for the operator(s). In locations where the run rate is still high when the time limit runs out, it becomes an even more stragegic skill to decide when to put in the hours. The CW and SSB WPX contests were originally created with the 30 hour SO limit. I think it was a mistake to increase it to 36 hours. Another factor to consider in discussions about changing contest rules is the impact on historical records as benchmarks for future performance. Some people will also argue that one time limit vs. another is better for different parts of the world, but no time limit will ever "level the playing field" for contests where participants are worldwide. This is why contest results are often organized on a geographical basis.

WPX RTTY Contest Operation Time - Single Ops.

I feel 36 hours is the right amount of time and doesn't overly stress the operator. 48 hours is insanity! With the ever increasing participation in RTTY contests, one certainly doesn't run out of stations to work. More operating time - more fun!
