First time in my life works as SOSBA 80m from new RN6BN/RM6A QTH(Since not all antenna ready on new place all crew split in to single band operators). The Result are not bad 1117 Q / 106 c /29 z.
In the following season we'll work on full power!

Did a single band, 10 meter effort using a 4 element Quad at 50 feet, so I don't have a big
station. I was delighted to break 1000 QSO's and a lot of multipliers. Congrats to Bill, W4ZV
who had double my score !

Very surprised to break the USA record on 10 meters! With the terrible conditions forecasted Friday, I expected the band to crash at any time. When the big flare hit at 1648 on Sunday, it only reduced signals about 30 dB for a few minutes and then things went back to normal. Strange that it apparently affected 10 less than 15 or 20! Even the JA opening later the same day was very good...very surprising!

I like the CQWW-CW but condx have been not very good from germany.On sunday evening the signals sounded like aurora signals on 2mtrs.Sunday morning was very bad (only EU).Before the test I hoped to break the DL-all time record but it wasn�t possible for me this year but will try again the next coming contests. Thanks to everyone who heard my little pistol signal and managed a QSO with me (SOSB10-HP(A))

Results CQ WW CW 2000
|
I had a nice weekend together with DL5RMH and DK1RP at DK1RPs station. On saturday we had a total failure at the multi-station, so we had to continue with one station... Had a lot of free time... I never watched so much TV during a contest :-)
I'm satisfied with the score... We had strange condx at the end of the contest... Aurora JA-Signals on 20m. etc...

I was operating QRP and was getting beat up
by everybody, Locals, DX, extra terrestrrail.
So the solar flare didn't make mush of a difference.
The whole week before was great though. Thanks
for the warm-up QSO's guys.

CQWW - Competition...

I find it interesting that we all have a different idea of how the contest treated us. For me, I'm only competing against myself, not the big guns or other stations. If I can do better, taking into account conditions, than in previous contests, I'm happy with the results. I was a 10m only operator, with 100w and a vertical in a lousy location. However, I worked 90 countries and 31 zones which is good using my benchmark. I've had better scores as a guest op or at a multi-multi but it's all relative, isn't it???

GREAT contest!!!10 metres was excellent in my neck of the woods almost all weekend. Don't like the idea of shortening the hours allowed or breaking it up over two weekends...half of the fun and skill is sitting there at 2 am trying to see the computer and make your fingers work the keyer properly. Leave it as it is...Can't wait for the 10 m test next weekend...

I agree with the comments on packing the contests into 48 hours continous formats. There might be more participation if the contests were two 24 hour sessions one week apart. This would also help eliminate the solar storm problem.

Ussing dxclusters in contests

You can forbid ussing of dxclusters, but that who will control that stations will not use it. Puting up rules that you can not control is stupid. Looking on posted scores, there are verry few assisted operetors and some multi that ussing dxclusters. So how come to such mess on spoted stations?

My neighbour forced me to run less than 5 Watts on this contest weekend. At the end I am thanksful to him, the thrill of QRP contesting is unbelievable. I started as SO on single band, but when 10 died at night I could not resist to continue on 40 , using less than 3 Watts (my neighbours alarm system is the most sensitive on 7 MHz). My goal was DXCC on 10, I finished with 96 countries, but had more fun, than hoped for. -VA3EU

Can I apologise now to all those who worked me and thought I couldn't read their CW! I couldn't! I think that in my state of exhaustion my ability to read and send CW was the first casualty of the weekend, unfortunately.

It was a great contest. This was the first time in our short contest era when all hardware and logging facilities worked without any problems. Conditions died last hours. That gave us a chance to end up on 160m and run some stations before ending.

Slow speed
|
Why doesn't anybody answer slow speed CW? I'm using a straight key and find it impossible to send >15WPM all day. All I heard was "test de xx#xx test" with no time between transmissions for any of these stations to possibly hear anybody that was sending their call. I think they turn on the memory keyer and walk away for a while, just to hold the freq.
Sunday morning, all bands DEAD.

Confirming contacts
|

Many times when a station had my call wrong and I corrected it I did not hear a confirmation of my correct call. The other station just sent another QRZ or CQ. I did not log these stations and when I called them again to correct it, I just got a B4 and they went on to the next station. Since they wouldn't take the time to send my call correcly at least once, I think they will be docked for NIL.

CW lives! Whole lotta fun going on this weekend on the air waves. Don't think I'll ever forget the afternoon the bands were given up for dead and then came back to life so quickly. . . Agree that the packet thing has gotten way out of hand - how about an experimental year without packet?

A new mult comes on & eventually gets spotted. One minute later, the very worst that ham radio can possibly offer results. Put an end to this madness and outlaw packet in major dx contests - back to knob spinning and searching 'em out for yourself!!!

Aurora affected 20m Saturday nite, otherwise pleased with 100w and dipole/gp capability. Judging by the QSY requests not many GW's active ! Nice to hear/work ZC4 !!

Beaming to SA
|
10/40/20 was poor, the people from NA/EU not beaming to little SA (100 watts, dipoles, long wires, etc..) stations.
15 meters was the best band for me...

I must take pause and get my perspective in order. It was just 20 years ago that a winning score for a USA M/M was 9 or 10 meg...now AR and ZD do that as single ops...wow.

At half-time, KC1XX Multi-multi had 15M points and was poised to break the 30M point/10K QSO barrier. Old Sol made sure that wasn't going to happen. We will have to have an extermely clean log in order to break the record we set last year.

All of these 48 hours contests are ironman tests , however it would be very interesting to cross poll the ages of guys in the top boxes , I think we would all be surprised !! Contesting is like Golf a sport for all ages .

Worked single band (15) qrp with the thought of taking first in VE-land. Find 5 watts out of IC-756 with TA-33 at 50 feet isn't much worse that 100 watts and more fun - up til the time of the solar flare.

Roof mast extension up to 25 feet (in 7 storey building ) enhanced my score by 40%, but could't break 1000QSOs on 10M HP anyway. So I am only satisfied with my score. 73'ss
