Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

160m
All these guys complaining that they don't have space for
a 160m antenna. Guys, NO ONE has the space for a good
160m antenna. We make do with what we have.

You'd be amazed at how much you can work with a really
crummy antenna on 160m. I got into 160m to improve my
NAQP scores. Now I love the band.

I'm sure most guys can shunt-feed a tower, or throw up
an inverted L, or perhaps load an 80M dipole. All of those
things work.

Two of my Favorite Bands!
I've had a soft spot for both bands, ever since I was a General in college in the 80s. What a fun idea! - sort of a potpourri of required operating techniques, due to the differences in propgation between the two bands,

A little factoid - many 10 & 160m enthusiasts are also into VHF & UHF weak signal stuff. 10 acts a lot like 6, when it's happening. On 160, I've occasionally had to use techniques to dig out weak signals out on 160, that are similar to what I've used on 2m SSB & CW.

160 / 10 Contest ...
Yup ,
I hafta agree : I don't have the space
( acreage ) for a 160 antenna ......
Nor do I have a rig that cover's it ; (
.... But BOY - HOWDY ! IF I DID !! - )
Maybe I could Take a turn @ the controls ?
.. .... like share in the duties ?
You bettcha !
73 for now ,

Well, a 48hr contest would give SO's the opportunity to use the full opening length of both bands (looking down the road, to the top of the cycle, anyway).

Now we just wait for a magazine sponsor to gobble up the idea...

Yep!
We have 160 and 10...how do we get the Ionosphere to cooperate in one weekend on both bands from Alaska? Might work for one year..the others would be all 10m or all 160m. Let's do it!

160-10
It would be a challenge to get on both bands, 10 obviously easier antenna wise. But propagation education would be interesting. I think it would be fun. How much time, 24 hrs? 48? Start at 5PM est on Fri?,etc.

160
I think its an interesting idea.

Except I can't go 160 since I don't have the area for an antenna. Have fun without me. 8)

160/10
Sure, why not? Another contest to get spanked in! I was not aware that there was still a contest free weekend to fit one in! (The previous was all tongue in cheek...except for me getting beat everytime...that still stands)

top and bottem
Those of us that can't spend all the hours we can pick day or night.
As for 10 it seems on contest week ends we make our own propagation.

Day / Night
Good combo... one band for day, the other for night (until 2010).. scoring rules need to be equitable

Might be very interesting at this end of the cycle. Only the guys with acreage (for 160) or big aluminum on 10 would score anything. Would be fun, though.

Posted by K1KAA on March 5, 2008

Top & Bottom
I think it would be fun! One weekend for phone and one weekend for CW.
