Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

LOTS of Changes!!
Well, I am installing a Jetstream UHF/VHF Vertical, then a 2 Meter cushcraft 11 element beam, then a cushcraft 6 Meter Beam, then finally a Force 12 C3S for HF.

On the tower leg I am instaling a M2 6 Meter Omni loop, and on the opposite leg, I am installing a 440 Beam pointed towards our State's Capital.

All new Feed Line, on a Refurbished Rohn tower 60' Tall.

Upgrade/Modify
I don't think any contester ever stop upgrading his/her station. It's always a constant search for "the better moustrap", be it an antenna, more tower height, transceiver or linear. I think the upgrading of the station is probably what we all do when not on the contest battlefield.

I would love to have a penny ..not a dollar...for all the sheets of paper I have used trying to figure out a new angle to achieve the next level of satisfaction in contesting. I would be a rich man.

CU on the battlefield...

remote tuner
Further improvments to the 160 antennas are in the works... Building a remote tuning match box so I can go to open wire line for feeding the antennas...

always a new antenna or 2
The new home is half surrounded by 80+ foot trees, but they're so thick I am having big trouble getting wires up there. I did hang a tribander driven element about 70' up as a "temporary" help on 20m, but my real dream is a MonstIR ... it just won't fit on the house, and my city lot will make having a tower a major effort needing city approval ... fortunately only 1 neighbor.
Still having a great time with a 20-40-80m fan dipole, HF9v, and the swinging tribander element. Had a blast with all that in WPXCW.

Hard to say
I'd like to up grade my HF & VHF contest setup this year, funds permitting. My present contest machine isn't much of a machine for doing it. My FT-897D is a good all arounder that I use for HF & VHF/UHF contesting, but like a jack of all trades, it's the master of none. I won't be able to afford the latest & greatest, but I wouldn't mind an Omni V or VI for HF, and a FT-736R, TS-790S, or IC-820 for VHF & UHF contesting. Like I said, funds permitting.

KL2R growing slowly
Will add second Force 12 C3 at the 85 ft level, this one pointed to EU. (Existing C3 at 55 ft pointed stateside.) Also will add rotatable EF140 40m dipole at 140 ft and 160m dipole before fall.

Request Denied
I was planning on adding a couple sections onto my 40' tower. The City of Calgary turned down the application "due to complaints about the aesthetics from neighbors". This was contrary to the "guidelines" agreed to by the city a few years back. Industry Canada refused to overturn the City's decision, stating "we don't want people mad at us". So, no plans to change anything major.

New tower with mono-band beams planned for this summer along with a "bits and pieces" upgrade to the station, i.e. better keying and automated messages for both PH and CW.
