Current Survey Question
Do you plan to enter the CQ WW
DX Contest?
Recent Surveys
Recently the RDXC committee
reclassified P3F to
high
power from low power without
publicly
providing strong evidence
that any
infraction had occurred.
They
concluded was that the
contestant was
running HP on 80/40m but
not full-time, just 10
minutes here
and there without any
convincing
evidence. It appears they
used the RBN as their source
of information. Should the
RXDC
contest have
to publicly provide
convincing
evidence before
reclassifying a
station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar
titled "
Convergence and Change" in
the 2015
CQWW CW printed results in
CQ
magazine. He wrote that the
"convergence of personal
computers,
Internet access,
DX clusters, and CW Skimmer
have
changed the nature of
CW contesting". He goes to
say that it
is "more difficult to police
the line
between the
single operator working
alone and
those who are using the
assistance of DX spotting."
In light of this convergence
and
change is it time to
recombine SO and
SOA into a single category?

If you operate single operator in the major DX contest (ARRL or CQ), how many hours do you put in? Is the number of hours less or more than a few years ago?

Wish the contest committees would consider a "24 hour" category in the major contests. That would allow people who are not interested in spending their whole weekend contesting to have a meaningful category in which to compete seriously without having to give up all weekend family time, church, and sanity.

SO Contest Time

Health problems combined with age combined with the realization that there is more to life than contesting has decreased my operating time. Maybe if I live long enough to retire I'll find more time for radio stuff.

Summer contests are hard for me to spend much time in as, yard work, outdoor activities, travel etc., seem to take up a lot of time. Winter is much better for settling in with a cup of coffee in one hand and a set of paddles in the other! Unless you like to shovel snow that is... haha! I'll spend two to three times more operating hours in the winter than summer.

As the majority of Ops are "doers", as I have gotten older I have volunteered my time to a number of organizations that conflict with contest weekends. Seems fewer people actually follow through with their volunteer commitment, thus leaving the balance of the volunteering to the "doer", thus reducing or eliminating my precious contest time. Just getting on at all is the best I can hope for. Chris KB3A

SO Contest Time

Just bought a house on 1 acre following a divorce 5 years ago. Now I can have my station at home, but lots to do with the house and yard, reducing my contesting time, hopefully it's only temporary and can up my participation with better antennas, soon. On the other hand, Mark, AA6DX makes a strong point about meds. Well I'll still be in there as much as I can. Gerry - K8GT

Problem is, if you end up taking meds when you get older, some just make you get tuckered out sooner than when you were in your healthy prime! Ahhhhh well. CQ Contest!

Now retired..kids all out on their own..widowed for 20 yrs..new QTH on 15 acres
Now, in spite of nagging relatives, I set contest weekends aside from most all other activities, therefore more time to concentrat on operating.
Next step is to get up something more than just an 80m dipole!!
