Contesting Online Survey

Survey Question Current Survey Question

Do you plan to enter the CQ WW DX Contest?

Recent Surveys

Recently the RDXC committee reclassified P3F to high power from low power without publicly providing strong evidence that any infraction had occurred. They concluded was that the contestant was running HP on 80/40m but not full-time, just 10 minutes here and there without any convincing evidence. It appears they used the RBN as their source of information. Should the RXDC contest have to publicly provide convincing evidence before reclassifying a station from LP to HP?

Randy, K5ZD, wrote a sidebar titled " Convergence and Change" in the 2015 CQWW CW printed results in CQ magazine. He wrote that the "convergence of personal computers, Internet access, DX clusters, and CW Skimmer have changed the nature of CW contesting". He goes to say that it is "more difficult to police the line between the single operator working alone and those who are using the assistance of DX spotting." In light of this convergence and change is it time to recombine SO and SOA into a single category?

Working Rare NEW DX
I've been a ham now for 25 years, and working a new DX country thrills me as much as my first one. I wish that more new hams would get past the 2M stage and get on HF. 2Meters is not real radio.

A new rig?
The last NEW rig I bought was a WRL Globe Chief. Darn tootin' I am ready for a new one.

Finishing a homebrew project
I think this the ideal of the amateur radios pioners.
I like much work rare dx stations but my best emotion was my first contact with my home brew ssb transmiter (SP on 40 mts with 40w 1x 6146 and a ladder ssb home brew filter. 4-8 was my first report.)

young people
The biggest thrill was seeing a young person discover the "magic of radio" by talking to VK land at a recent scout camp that we put a station on at. Pure pleasure!

Working a rare one
Last year I worked VK6HD (rare one for pys on 80/160) on 80 meters. The signal path is over the South Pole. It was one of the most exciting things I have done in Ham radio. I was not using a 4 square and beverages... just a low dipole.

Paper Chase
It is exciting for me to work on a new overall
country in the chase for DXCC Honor Roll.
I feel the excitement when I'm chasing a new
Zone for 5 band W.A.Z. or a new country for
5 band DXCC. Low bands are the most exciting
of them all. Work one here and you earned it.

Tough Choice
Well, I've never gotten a new HF rig, but have done the rest. Getting my sonn & brother licensed was exciting, and any DX is still exciting, but nothing can quite beat the thrill of getting something *I* built to work!

Thrills
Watching a new operator work a rare DX is probably the most exciting, although the first 5 minutes of Sprint or SS are not far behind!

Posted by N0AX on August 29, 2000

REALLY exciting
W4AN beating K1AR. N5AU beating K2GL/N2AA. Timmy beating all the boyz. UPSETS are exciting.

The rarest thing are the most exciting! So my top four is :
1 - Finish my homebrew ( once every 11 years)
2 - Getting a new rig ( every 10 years)
3 - Work a new DXCC (once a year)
4 - Getting somebody new into ham radio (several times a year)

nothin like a new rig
Getting a new one under the
xmas tree is pretty good to.

6M/160 DX
Working a "new one" on either 6 or 160 is
still a thrill. A close second is getting someone
new into amateur radio. - N0JK

I've been licensed for 34 years. One of the most exciting times in ham radio for me was watching my newly licensed 8 year old daughter make her first qso.

RTTY
RTTY a close second for me (after CW). Maybe because it's still new for me. 180 countries worked in 18 months and counting...

Posted by AD1C on August 23, 2000

Better still.
Getting someone new into contesting!
