Contesting Online Speak Out

Speak Out: SSB operations out of the 40m bandplan

Every DX phone contest, on 40 meters, stations can be heard operating SSB down below 7040kHz and others, working split, listening for contacts there. Even though the "7040" plan is voluntary, do you feel it still deserves to be honored during contests?

Just which 40m band plan are we talking about here? I've heard USA hams complain that the Canadians are not operating according to the band plan, of course not, we have a different band plan, Canadians do not come under the authority of the FCC, it's Industry Canada or whatever the latest government chooses to call it. I would bet that every country that has authorized their citizens use of the amateur radio bands has a slightly different band plan to that of "The Band Plan" in the subject line.

What does contesting prove anyway? Nothing. Just old guys with a lot of money spent on stations to feed there egos. Its the "mine is bigger than yours" argument. Means nothing, does not earn you respect, and does not make you a "Ham Hero". Just another annoyance to operators on the band generating QRM

Most recent SSB operation(s) in NAQP on 7022, and 7028 were on August 20, 2011, remain unclear what Contest organizers will do with this info. It used to be foundation for license revocation, not any more. Each and every one of the violators were US extra license holders. Apparently making few extra $$$ taking precedence over everything else... :-( Long live ...

Hoora for the contest bullies. Eventually you will have all of the bands to yourselves. You are the best reason to use email, or cellphone.

People operating out of plan should suffer a contest points de-multiplier, if the offending stations cannot find anybody to work, they will go where they can!!!

Whilst people are working them, they'll continue to do it. During the CQWW contest, two SSB stations placed their QRO, wide signals smack on the CW QRP frequency 7030. This is well out of order. They didn't even check frequency first, and destroyed several qsos, adding insult to injury by working split and listening within the SSB slot. This is a breach not just of etiquette, but licencing conditions too.

After being licensed for over 25 years, I still cannot comprehend why Amateurs world-wide do not share the same band plan. Would this not be a permanent solution to this problem? I agree with most posts here that the current situation makes no sense whatsoever. ..
