Take 'em to Field Day where the pressure is low and the fun-factor is high. Let them pretend it's a contest.

Then, put 'em on the ARRL 10m contest where the exchange is easy and the entire world gets on. If they don't like that contest, give up, they'll never like contesting.

When they are ready to be abused, send 'em to the ARRL Sweepstakes contest. The exchange is very technical and the QRM is fabulous.

Don't let 'em start on a major DX contest (assuming you are in the USA) because even medium guns are little guns in those and the fun factor is low unless you are a big gun.

If you are going to do computer logging, make sure you practice a lot and enter all the piddly contests to get proficient. 2001 was my first year for computer logging and my scores are being dinged big-time by the logging checkers and I still don't know what the problem is.
